Laveranues Coles may be playing like a Pro Bowler, but from the tone of his conversation today, he’d be just as content being a pro bowler. The Jets receiver, excited about seeing first-hand the finished product that is his recently-built house in the Jacksonville area, spoke about having a bowling alley installed on the premises. He said he hasn’t bowled in a while, but that a 200 game would be a good one for him despite his recent lack of attention to the sport. He’s apparently quite a consistent kegler, and even joked that the brace on his right wrist was his bowling brace.
In reality, Coles won’t have much time to inspect the handiwork on the house, let along mark a few frames. He said some other teams give their players a chance to meet with friends and family when on the road – especially when the player is from the area. “Not this team, not this coach,” Coles said, resigned to a quick hug and wave from family in the tunnel after the game and a 15-minute tour of his house.
Cedric Houston did not practice today, so despite Mangini’s assertion that there is a shot everyone can play, don’t expect it. There’s a shot Joe Namath could play this weekend too, but it ain’t gonna happen. Mangini is well-aware that when he speaks to the media he is actually speaking to that week’s opponent, so the more mixed messages and confusing possibilities he can promote, the better. It’s a Belichickian attitude, just like listing 19 players on the injury report. Justin Miller is listed as probable with a hip. His hip looked fine when he was running 103 yards for a touchdown. His coverage, on the other hand …
I guess the Yankees are the glamour beat. I read Baumbach’s account of taking the elevator with Alec Baldwin and Lorne Michaels and trying to find a seat big enough for Patrick Ewing. Even the Mets game yesterday had Tim Robbins in the booth and John McEnroe in the stands. The Jets get Mr. T before the game. We’re the basic-cable reality show of metropolitan sports. Sigh!
Bad week for my picks last weekend, getting only three correct. I took the Jets to cover the 7 points on the theory that the Patriots are better than the Jags and the Jets lost by 7 to the Pats. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jacksonville comes out and puts up big numbers. They need this win more than the Jets do, especially facing a bye week to stew about a potential loss.

Tom,
We also had Jessica Biel and James Gandolfini. And lets not forget the Pats game where we had Ewing AND Jordan sitting together.
But lets face it. NY is a baseball town. So with both the Yanks and the Mets playing in October, you better bet that those are the hot tickets.
Tom,
Is Stroud definitely out?
Celebs... ahh... who cares. Mr.T didn't even do the Jets cheer right.
What I want to know, is what happens when the Jets and move ALL Football operations to Jerze? What will we call them, the NY Jets? How can we, they don't have anything to do with NY anymore? That's like calling up Philidelphia and telling the Eagles that they are now the NY Eagles because we live close enough to drive there. Regardless of the fact that they are right across the river, they will still live, practice, play and pay taxes to New Jersey.
Buffalo anyone? Only NY team left... maybe we should Annex the Meadowlands for NY?
Brgds!
Jimmy Cheese.
PS.. I want Beningo's opinion on this one. ;)
If you weren't sufficiently troubled to stop rooting for the team after it moved to New Jersey 22 years ago, I don't see why you'd be upset over the most recent move. And as for the suggestion that Buffalo is the only New York team, I maintain that New Jersey is far more "New York" than Buffalo.
You gotta love LC. Just wondering if he wasn't producing or the team was stuck in a losing streak, his caustic appraisals of Mangoulini would really cause some problems rather than causing wry smiles. No offense to Jimmy, but I can't see why anyone would care what Beningo has to say. He is just awful. Oh, maybe it was a sarcastic post-script. Oh, I am dense sometimes.

If there's one thing I learned from the WSS debacle, it's that I don't trust ANYTHING until there are shovels in the ground.
If you're like me, feel free to keep hoping against hope that something changes.
Are you ppl serious? Who the hell cares if the offices are in NJ or NY?
Jimmy, I was troubled then, 22 years ago, but felt it was still OK as they maintained HQ operations at Hofstra, so technically, the Jets are (were) still a NY team. They play in NJ, but reside in NY.... and keep a lot of small business afloat in the area as well.
Once they move everything, they have nothing to do with this state, permanently. The Devils play in the same complex, but we don't call them the NY Devils.
There is a difference. I guess you don't go to the training camps, with the kids, and root for the players. I do, and have done since the Kotie era (prior to that I was in College in FLA). What a loss. No way in hell will I drive 2+ hrs away to NJ to do that. Cross Bronx? Yeah right.
And Rich... yes, I agree... I still hope someone in Albany, or NYC, or Queens... Long Island... Westchester... etc... steps up and says 'Hey, these are NY teams, not NJ!! Why are we letting the Jets leave.' But we all know, money talks, BS...
If anyone actually thought that the West Side Stadium had more than a snowball's chance in hell of being built, he didn't know the first thing about Manhattan politics. That project was dead ab initio.
another classic noodle arm performance. comparing his lobs to leftwich or namath ropes is like night and day. no wonder he's 3-10 against good defenses. just blitz him like theraiders did in 2002, or crowd the middle with defenders and make him throw ducks to the outside like the ones mcquarters picked in the giant preseason game. he's a hold-the-fort/backup guy, not a franchise qb!
