Still the best?

Despite the act of cleaning out their lockers, at least one Giants said he still thinks the Giants are the best team in football. And, oh, by the way, they probably weren't when they won last year.

"I still feel like we’re the best team in football," C Shaun O'Hara said. "We didn’t win. We’re out. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t think we’re still the best team in football. Sometimes the best team doesn’t always win. Look back at the Patriots, they were undefeated going into the Super Bowl. We play that game 10 more times I don’t know if we win ‘em all. They may have been the best team but it’s all about who makes plays that game and who wins that game."

Sorry Shaun; don't agree with that assessment.

The "Best team in Football" doesn't lose 4 out 5 down the stretch, Man.

The best?! The Giants were completely outplayed & out hustled in 2 consecutive home games vs Eagles! They lost 4 of 5, and by measure of a few feet (Panther FG) would have lost 5 straight!

He is right....sometimes the best team doesn't win. Just remember what team lost the Super Bowl lasy year.

Its kind of like Wade Phillips' comment last year when the Cowboys lost to the Giants. He said something to the effect that "the better team lost today". That bugged me then, so I can't in good conscience say the Giants are the best team now. They were the best team at one point in the season, but not at the end. For multiple reasons (Plaxico, schedule, early bye week, etc) they peaked around game 12. Last year the Giants were on the positive end of peaking at the right time. This year they were done in by it.

How in God's name can anyone not smoking the pipe make that claim? The Eagles dominated them twice, they scrapped by the Panthers, they are clearly not the best team in football. Eagles, Ravens, Steelers, Cards, Titans, Chargers are all better at this point in the season. What a joke! Better to have missed the playoffs than to lay down like dogs for the Eagles. It was an embarrassment for everyone on the field in Blue.

The Eagles made the plays, the Jints didn't. One set that stands out to me was at the end of the 1/2 after the Jints kicked to go-ahead field goal. The Eagles marched right back downfield and answered that with one of their own. The Giants were doing a great job on defense, keeping the Eagles bottled up, getting a safety and the momentum, the the Eagles made some adjustments and the Giants were hopeless to stop them. On offense the Giants had a lot of chances and couldn't make the plays. Giant receivers were getting behind the Eagles secondary and Manning couldn't get them the ball. Gilbride should have seen WAY BEFORE THEN, that Manning didn't have it and they should have changed the play calling.

"Monday Morning Quarterbacking" I know, but I'm sure that you guys saw the same game that I did.

Sorry, but this year so far, the Eagles are better than the Giants.

He should feel that way, its ok to have that pride.

The best team doesn't always win. In enough games, they would win most, but since the NFL isn't best of 7, its kind of moot.

SB champs are SB champs. Nothing else holds water to that. And it can't be argued.

Anyone else think Jacobs wasn't quite right? He ran well, but something was off to me.

PS TR- incase I don't make it to live chat tomorrow, I wanted to say to you how much I enjoyed and appreciated your Giants coverage this season. My only note, let your humor come out more, especially on the blog.

We will not even make the play offs next year without a go to #1 WR. Plax made Eli look so much better than he is. I bleed Blue but I am very disappointed in this squad. Maybe we should consider promoting Spags and talking Tom into an early retirement?

Maybe the Giants can create a wind tunnel when the team shows up for summer camp in July so that Eli can learn how to throw the ball in the wind.

they lost 4 of 5.. they played there team 1/2 the game against Minny if you want
to be fair......

ALso where is Gilbride the Einstein today?

The ylost because of him plain and simple... Yeah the Giants were domianted.

the Iggles had 270 yards offense. Westborrok domianted them for a 2 yards per carry.

5 green zone trips 9 points with 2 missed field goals.

Some brilliant play calling by Gillbride.. 1st and 5 with 2 minutes left in the 1st half, yeah let's go empty

backfield, what the heck, it is 70 degrees and no wind.. Give me a break.

Look at the shrewd play calling Gilbride had after the RObbins interception...

I'm with stuart on this one; you have to hang this on the offensive play calling. The D did everything in their power to keep the Giants in the game, and don't forget the Giants were winning 11-10 in the 3rd Quarter. Gilbride made terrible decisions, especially not running the ball on 1st and 5 before the half. Even if they got stopped and only ended up with a FG anyway, it would have taken the clock down to the end of the half and the giants would have trotted in up 8-7. They passed, stopped the clock, left time on the clock for McNabb. Terrible playcalling, Giants had 130+ yards on the ground for God's sake, go with what got you there! Terrible management and play designing did this team in yesterday.

I hate to b the bearer of bad news but has anyone including the Giants stop to think that the problems they have at times is because they only have a marginal at best Quarterback. The team was not outplayed the Quarterback was. Other than maybe 3 games last year Eli has not lived up to his price tag or last name. Just look at the teams remaining in the playoffs and ask yourself which one of those teams on a whole is better than the Giants. Then ask yourself which Quarterback plays worst than Eli. Gilbride can call the plays but they still have to be executed. How many balls were thrown behind or over a receivers head yesterday.McNabb played with that same wind but he got it done. Coughlin take a page out of Andy Reids book n bench that guy and see what happens then. David Carr can do no worse. He competed and produced more in Houston with less talent. Without that miraculous catch by Tyree on his helmet n not in his chest(that was a high pass)are we still calling them champs.

Just a couple things...the eagles, ravens, steelers, chargers, titans,
and cards are all better than us? Umm..whipped the ravens and cards
handily, beat the steelers and eagles (not when it counted but..).
The Titans lost to the Jets and got handled by the Ravens.
And I'm sorry Philly is only getting thru by the grace of God.
If your playoff life depends on a Texans and Raiders win..someone
owes the man upstairs a big thank you. So go ahead and say what
you will, but the Giants are going to get a Pro-Bowl caliber defensive
end back and possibly a pro-bowl caliber WR (if he's not in jail) without
doing anything. And PS WE WERE ALREADY THE #1 SEED. We'll
be back, say what you want about flukes but 12 wins after a SB season
is not a fluke, we got everyones best game cuz everyone wanted to beat
us. Not to mention playing games against all the teams playing for
their respective championships. The Giants played all but 3 play off teams.
We'll be back, with a bigger us against the world mentality and you
know how well that works for us.

Bluest,
I will absolutely stand behind that. This weekend everyone of those teams would have beaten us. And that's all that matters. Not who won in week 5. It is over, and as you note the Giants will be better next year. But what a miserable finish!

It was a miserable finish. I was literally sick to my stomach. Yesterday was my poor father's birthday,
after my brothers and I finished destroying him on the golf course he had to come home and watch that
pathetic show the Giants put on. After all that though my dad looked at me and said..sucks now but in
April I'll be screaming again and we'll all be better fans for it. I knew he was right, but it wasn't until this
morning that I saw the silver lining. How could we have gotten rid of Killdrive after winning the SB?
Now we have an excuse. If he can avoid jail time, MAYBE Plax realizes he's got to stop being such a screw
up. Or and at this point I'm leaning more towards it we go out and get a different #1 target for Eli, one that
doesn't have the tendency to take plays off. I love Plax the player, in fact his is the only Giants jersey I own.
But as a wise man once said you gotta know when to hold and know when to fold em. At this point if Plaxs is
in the card, I'm gonna fold. Eli had a horrible game, but a better overall season, so he's showing improvement.
Maybe he can't throw in the wind but we already got 1 ring out of him so he's better than most QB's in the league.
It's not all doom and gloom in Giant Land, bet alot of the guys next year won't let a game like this happen again next
year. New OC in '09 Tell 'em T Rock

now all the Eli haters will come out of the woodwork.

yeah Mcnabb played HOF like yesterday!!!

especially the 70 yards in the first half. Again if Gilbride had a brain those

70 yards in the first half would have been about 35...

Eli played badly, mostly because Gilbride is a moron.

ANyone who thinks they called a good game is a joke. FOrget about the 2
fourth down plays, the playcalling stunk in the first 3 quarters.

They actually ran when they should have passed in the 4th quarter when Gillbride finally figured things

out but it was to late by then.

2 drives cannot be explained by anyone who knows anything about football are the Giant drive with 2 minutes left in the

first half and the drive after the Robbins int....

Classic, I thought I was watching Mouse Davis.....

Yeah, Eli had a bad game and he couldn't have possibly picked a worst time to have a stinker. It happens.

If all that Gibride was going to do was call plays in the passing game, why didn't he call Boss' number more? The guy was open most of the day as a LB was covering him. It could have been a field day and maybe the Jints get some TD's instead of FGs. He's also become Manning's favorite guy since Plax hasn't been around.

Also, they were built on the run and then abandoned it. They should have kept pounding the Eagles front 7 (or 8) constantly. If they didn't want to run the ball, they should have called some more play action and at least utilize the threat of the Giants' running game. I guess that I'm just grasping at straws right now.

I don't know what else to say about this game.

The Giants dissapointed me, this week, but I'm still not sold on the Eagles

I don't know what you are seeing bigbluest3
You are just not accepting reality neither is OHara.
Maybe he ought to look at the film with Broderick Bunkley threw him down on the short yardage plays.

Three weeks in the NFL is like 6 months in a person's life.
The league changes so fast.

The Eagles dominated them twice in the span of 23 days in Giants stadium.
They have no passing game now.
For those who believe they didn't run enough.
They ran more than they threw it for the game.
Who does that in the current NFL?
You take away Jacobs 24 yard run, he had just 68 yards- 3.7 per carry
He had 12 runs of of 3 yards or less out of his 19 carrys.
That's poor.
They have no weapons at WR.
The Eagles corners dominated them.
That allowed an extra safety up into the run game.
In the game in Giants stadium during the regular season, before the final worthless TD drive they had a total of 61 yards passing for the game
It was not much better in this game.

The book on the Giants are if you take away the run which the Eagles did in both games, Eli and the passing game is not efficient enough to win the game.

I would be suprised if the Eagles do not win the Super Bowl.
