Rookie: "Bring it on!"

As part of my tour of the locker room today I stopped by to speak to some of the rookies who will be playing in their first playoff game this weekend. I'll write a full story on it sometime this week. But I wanted to pass along this little bit from LB Bryan Kehl on this week's opponent:

"Coming into the playoffs we knew that Philadelphia was a possibility," he said. "I was home during the bye week and a lot of people were asking me 'Who do you want to play? Who do you want to play?' They were expecting me to not say Philadelphia because they were playing at such a high level and are so hot right now. But I said 'Bring it on.' If it’s not hard then there’s no value in the accomplishment. Shoot, we want the hardest path to the top there is. And then we’ll enjoy it the most when we get there."

Kehl is also sporting a beard this week, a tradition usually linked to hockey. But unlike the Giants, the chances of the beard advancing through the playoffs are unlikely.

"I might be shaving it," Kehl said of his playoff beard. "It’s starting to drive me nuts. It might be gone tomorrow, we’ll see."

I told him it was now or never because if he keeps it for the game and the Giants win, then he wouldn't really be able to shave until the Giants either won the Super Bowl or were eliminated. He disagreed.

"I'm not a superstitious guy," he said. "I was doing it for fun. But if it’s bugging me, it’s coming off."
