Spags defends Ross

Here's what defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo had to say about CB Aaron Ross, who was "demoted" to nickleback for the first few series of the second half on Sunday:

"Well, that was already planned," Spags said. "Aaron will tell you that I spoke to him before the week and what I said to him was, 'Hey, Kevin (Dockery) has been playing some good football, he warrants a little bit of playing time, we might mix it up a little bit.’ So he was prepared for that and, you know, what looks like to the public like he was struggling, the one touchdown pass we all felt as a defense, players and coaches, that he had a little bit too much time. It's hard in this league to cover guys for five, six, seven seconds, that is tough to do, but Aaron is a confident guy, he never lost stride. He did some really good things in this past game and I expect him to do the same in this coming game. We have a lot of trust in him."

Spags also said Ross would be back starting at corner this weekend.

Still, it's a little strange for Spags to say it was planned when Coughlin, asked about the situation, had this to say after the game:

"Well, we had had some issues there in terms of some coverage, so we just went ahead and played Dock in there and Aaron still played in all the situational defenses. We just have to get better."

Even on Monday, Coughlin said this:

"We have some guys that can be interchanged and that is kind of the way it is. A guy makes a mistake and he needs to come to the sideline to talk about it or discuss it or take a series to kind of go back over his thoughts and get himself collected, there is nothing wrong with that."

Doesn't sound like something that was planned. Even Ross said on Monday that he was told about the change in the halftime locker room. Now, he may have been told that Dockery deserved a chance to play, as Spags said, but from what Ross told us on Monday, the news was a bit of a surprise to him.

I like Ross, and the one bad game he had was on Monday Night, but to his defense almost everyone played bad that night (except Steve Smith, he has really turned into a great third down reciever, which the Giants have been missing for some time.)

I think Ross is on his way to becoming a very good-elite cornerbacks.

Speaking of good cornerbacks, Webster looks like the real deal, who would of thought this time last year, that he is/would be on his way to being a shut down corner.

Well they will have a good match up with the Steelers recievers, and lets hope all that deep ball practice in training camp will pay off.

A lot of great match ups this week
Giants o-line vs Pitt's d-line
Giants d-line vs Pitt's o-line
Giants RB's vs Pitt's LB's
Plax vs Pitt's secondary

You know how NFL Films has the Game of the Week, I think atleast the next 3 games, they are all gonna be on the Giants.

Quick note: The article "Big task for Giants' 'D' against Big Ben," was about the 49ers, not the steelers. Looks like your a week behind T Rock. lol
