He's a hard-hitting CB who some scouts projected as a safety and even played some linebacker at Southern Cal. He's got two surgeries on his shoulders after dislocating each of them during his college career and a knee surgery to prove how physical he can be. The Giants took him in the second round with the 63rd overall selection. It was the second pick for the secondary on the day. As Mike G pointed out, they drafted a safety-type player to play cornerback and a cornerback-type player to play safety.
And that's all for today. I'm on the road to try and get home before midnight and then get back here tomorrow morning. There are a few funny observations and quotes to blog about from today, but I'll save those for Sunday morning.
Oh, and thanks to Glauber and all the people who were reading his live blog for allowing me to butt my big bald head in with Giants perspective throughout the day. That was a lot of fun!

T-Rock...thanks for the tight coverage.
Tom,
I have to say, I really feel like the Giants dropped the ball on the Terrell Thomas pick. As you said, the guy has had multiple surgeries in college and is an injury risk. ESPN had him as the 17th rated cornerback in the draft. The Giants have decent depth at the position and there is a good chance that he would have been there in the 3rd round. I really thought that the pick should have been Dan Connor. I was stunned that he was still on the board, and he would have provided depth at all 3 LB positions and is solid in coverage which is a weakness for the Giants LB's last season.
Rock, thank you sir.
I have to agree with Bill. I feel like Thomas would have been there, and even though we have quite some depth at LB, we could have used Connor (or insert LB here). That said, I trust Reese, I think we got a gamer, and Gerris seems to be up to the task.
Goodnight (morning) folks.
Great stuff yesterday, TRock!
I, like a lot of others, was expecting to hear Dan Connor's name at #63 yesterday. Maybe Reese thinks he, or another similar LB, could be there at the end of the third round?
I hear ya. And yes, when the name came out, I had to flip through a few sheets of paper to figure out who Terrell Thomas was. I thought they would go with Connor. But I think the pick reflects the state of the Giants. It's a risky pick but it could pay off big-time. And they could afford to take the risk because their roster is pretty much set -- other than waiting to see who retires, holds out, is traded, and the other usual stuff!!!
The secondary picks are clearly Spags initiated, as Thomas is one more physical CB who will play bump coverage and blitz from the corner. It would be apparent that Spags wants as many CB and safeties as possible in his mixes. The defenses this season are going to be even more difficult for teams to decipher. Wouldn't be surprised if Giants draft another pass rusher before this draft ends either. As to Connor, he may also drop, but certainly there will be a similar LB for the giants in 3rd or 4th rd. I think that Spags puts more pressure from the corners and disguises the coverages so adeptly that LB's are not the key elements in his defenses. Rushing the QB is his major weapon and the last 3 games showed that this D is very dangerous now that they understand Spags designs. I can see alot of nickel and dime designs that are meant to bring pressure and deare teams to run the ball, well big guys like Phillips and Thomas will be up to the task of stopping the run as well. This was a Spags decision.
