A person close to Spags confirmed this to me a little while ago, following up on the NFL Network's Adam Schefter reporting it earlier today.
Spagnuolo spoke with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder on the phone last night and the two had a good talk, so Spags will hop a private jet to Washington later to speak in person with Snyder and Vinny Cerrato, the Redskins' VP of operations, tonight and tomorrow morning.
Several members of the Giants organization have said privately that Spagnuolo would be crazy to go to the Redskins, who already have an offensive coordinator (Jim Zorn) and a defensive coordinator (Greg Blache) in place. But the person close to Spags pointed out that Spags didn't get to hire any of his assistants in New York this year and did a fine job.
Spags will definitely listen to what the Skins have to offer, if they offer him anything. The Giants, quite honestly, should be lucky that there's only one job open now, because Spagnuolo would definitely be a goner if there were a competition.

Question is whether he can see himself working under an infantile, micromanaging owner, who probably will want to break down film with him. If I were Spags, I'd wait for another coach to get canned. Only a matter of time, and his stock isn't exactly going to fall.
Also, consider that with the skins job he'd be going head to head 4x a year with the only 2 organizations he's known. I hope that sways him a little too. Obviously would like him to stay in ny.
The Redskins are a joke of an organization. All the players loved and respected Gregg Williams and Snyder ungraciously canned him. How can they not feel initial suspicion of the new coaching staff? Is that the kind of conditions under which Spagnuolo wants to begin his Head Coaching career?
He will definitely get offers next year but I hope that the Giants can miraculously keep him satisfied enough to stay here and succeed Coughlin in 3-4 years.

Maybe the Giants can give him a future head coaching job after Tom C. leaves, kind of what the Colts did. After Dungy leaves, he already has an replacement.
Nothing agianst Tom, he can coach and do whatever he wants, as long as they win. But It would be a good move, knowing the Giants future would be in good hands.
Glad the Vets. got there rings like Toomer, Feagles, and of course Strahan. Kind of funny how Eli and Montana both are number 1 picks, and both won SB in 4th year
Little Draft talk, what you think the Giants are going for in the 1st round. Im thinking saftey, Butler always seems to miss a tackle, screw up an assignment, always something.
Giants need help at linebacker, saftey, D-Tackle, O-line depth and running back........being 20 mil under the cap with most key guys signed is huge....I think they go linebacker with their first round pick as there will be a lot of solid linebackers around when the Gmen pick....They will resign Gibril and maybe Mitchell if the price is right. Torbor will probably be gone and they may need another D-End if Strahan retires...

definately need another cornerback, these guys did a suprisingly good job this year, but they arent exactly an elite group and very injury prone. definately need linebackers and some more o-linemen. o-line was a brightspot this year but guys are getting old and if one or two go down we're in some trouble. a deep threat receiver would be excellent since sinorice moss doesnt seem to be panning out. Toomers getting pretty old, smith is a possession receiver not a long-ball guy, and plax would be even better if we had a young speedy guy to stretch out defenses more.

Local reports from Washington say they spoke Monday night, Tuesday night and again Wednesday and that it's probably down to Spags and Fassell. Redskins want to make a final decision by Friday. Meanwhile, Giants said to be formulating a contract offer that includes a big pay raise.
