Plaxico's left knee is swollen

Plaxico Burress missed Wednesday's practice because of pain in his right ankle, which has kept him out of a majority of the regular-season practices.

But on Thursday, Burress warmed up and prepared to do some limited work, as he'd done nearly every day of practice since the week of the first Giants-Patriots game. This time, though, it was another nagging injury from the regular season, soreness and swelling in his left knee, that shut Burress down.

Not exactly good news with the Super Bowl now two days away.

"He has an ankle that always has been a problem, but he also has some issues with a knee that off and on in the past has bothered him,’’ Tom Coughlin said. ``That’s the thing right now. Between the two of them, that’s why he’s not working. He comes out and tries to go and can’t go.’’

Burress' knee injury first made an appearance on the team's injury report on Nov. 28, after the Giants' loss to the Vikings. Burress didn't miss a game this season, of course, but he had only three catches for 36 yards in the Giants' 21-16 win over the Bears on Dec. 2. He came back with seven catches for 136 yards and a touchdown the following week in Philadelphia.
