Q of the D

We'll keep it brief: Which Giants deserve to go to the Pro Bowl? Balloting wraps up this week, so I thought you could be heard on the subject.

Let me know.

Osi
Tuck
Fred Robbins
Antonio Pierce
Sam Madison
Plaxico
Jeff Feagles

Well, the big question certainly is: can Osi, Strahan AND Tuck all go? Osi's got 12 sacks, Strahan and Tuck each have 9. Who else is there for the D-line in the NFC - Kerney and Trent Cole?

Other than that, I got nothing. Maybe I give Plaxico got a shot given the number of TDs.

Wow Alex, ever heard of Aaron Kampmann?

As far as Giants making the Pro Bowl, I'd say Strahan is a lock. And I would love to see Plex make it, but I don't think he will. I think Osi is borderline.

Plax, Strahan, Osi, Feagles, Snee, Eli ( He is winning and is the third best QB in the NFC), Shockey (people sleep on his blocking ability, and help probably end up with 60-70 rec), Tuck, Pierce

Feagles
Snee
Osi
Burress
Hedgecock

Osi, Strahan (Tuck will get it next year), Madison, maybe Burress but I would doubt it, Snee, and maybe O'Hara.

and Feagles too.

Osi and Feagles. That's about it. Plax would have had a chance without the injury.
Tom G., I'm not sure what games you're watching on Sunday but the following NFC QB's have played much better than Eli this year: Romo, Favre, Hasselback, Brees and Garcia. The only reason there isn't more is because Bulger, Warner, Delhomme and Mcnab have been hurt. Eli has absolutely no chance for the pro bowl and rightly so.

I said the third best, and you are bad gmen fan if you don't vote for you QB, the guy wins, brings his team back when he as too, and has decent numbers when it is all said and done. Would you rather have pretty numbers or wins?

feagles
osi

Most Deserving: Osi, Robbins, Plax, Feagles & Hedgecock
2nd Tier: Strahan & Pierce
3rd Tier: Tuck & Snee

If the Giants can keep games close...they always seem to come up winners at the end..... It's Eli's magic. Sometimes when he looks lost or throws the ball straight to the other team, it only amplifies what he does when the game is on the line or we need a td on a fourth quarter drive. We never had that with Brown, Kanell, Graham and I would venture to include Collins. Not since Simms.

That and our improved D give me hope for the post-season!

Plus I love how they players are now rallying around Coughlin.

Finally...Steve Smith...get on the field...We need you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Neil, I completely agree with you on Eli, he has something special, he just wins. The difference this year is we finally have a Defense.

The defence has kept us were we are today so I vote for Osi, Strahan, Tuck, and without Pierce guiding the defence we would be no were. The one guy I would not like to see hurt would be Pierce because there is no one on the defence who has his ability to call the right defence on every play. Another guy Jeff Feagle has kept the other teams away from our goal line by placing the ball deep in their zone in almost every game. LET"S GO GIANTS!!!

Tuck playing DT
Strahan
Snee
Plax

Possibly
Osi (really had 1 incredible game, 1-2 great games and the rest good or blah)
Feagles

No
Shockey
Eli---Brian I agree with you that Tom G is insane...

Favre-Romo-Hasselback, heck even Kitna

Kitna, are you kidding me? how is his team doing? I can give you Hasselback, but they throw the ball 70% of the time so his stats are inflated. I"m telling you guys, I sat first row at giants/eagles this weekend and Eli made some irrceidable plays that sometiems you can't see on TV. YOu guys are bad gmen fans.

Charlie, you are dead on with you assessment of Pierce. He is hardly a physical beast of a player, but his film study is what puts this defense in position to win games. He has done a great job quarterbacking the defense this season and while he doesn't make all the plays, he usually is the one that puts his teammates in the position they need to be in so they can make the plays. I dont think he gets enough credit for his football IQ.

In this conference where you get mostly piss poor QB play, it was all set for our Eli to finally justify Accorsi''s Draft Day trade and make the trip to Hawaii as a player. But, because our coaching staff cannot get this kid right, Eli is going to have to pay for a ticket again...Just another reason why Coughlin and his cronies are not the right men for Eli...They have had 4 years to get him straight and there is 4 years of evidence showing they cannot...

I would love to see at least one of the O-linemen go. If I'm correct, I think none of them have ever been to the probowl.

Other than them, Plax I think is the only player on offense who is deserving.

Feagles deserves it this year (I thought he was deserving last year as well). I also think Tyree has had another outstanding year on special teams, and should be a pro bowler this year.

On the D side, I think we can argue about Tuck, Stra, and Osi all day long. I think one will definitely go, maybe two, but there is no way all 3 go. Tuck will likely be the odd man out, as he has the least name recognition.

I would also love to see Robbins go. I think he lacks name recognition, but can you think of interior defensive linemen more deserving? not many I don't think

I forgot Hedgecock on offense... he's had a heck of a year at FB. On Eli: I am a huge Eli fan. I agree that he is so much better than what people see on TV and what the media credit him for. But his stats will not allow him to go, though he may be deserving. I think he is an underrated scrambler, and his ability to recognize defenses and change the play at the line is on par with Peyton's, and probably better than 95% of NFL QBs. The one TD against the Eagles was on an audible called by Eli. Very very underrated and overanalyzed.

Hedgecock deserves it more than anyone on the team, the man is an absolute savage.

Yeah, good call on Kampman. Looking at the stats, you could also make a case for KGB from Green Bay too, as well as Ogunleye from Chicago.

As far as Feagles goes - have you people looked at the punter from San Fran? He leads the league in length of punts (Feagles is WAAAAAY down in the rankings) as well as %age inside the 20. So, no way on Feagles.

And anyone that says Eli is smoking something. He has 18 TDs and 17 INTs. Hasselback has 24 and 10. I'd take Brees over Eli also.

The guy always gives us a chance, why do you think we are in the playoffs 3 years in row?YOu guys are bad gmen fans.

Does anyone listen to Sirius NFL Radio? They have many players interview, and they all say Eli is very underrated and a really smart player.

I'm so pissed off right now sitting at work. All you Eli haters sound like bitter Eagle fans. What does the great Arthur Staple think?

Definitly Osi, Shockey, and Hedgecock, Would give it to Plax too, how many players can miss all practice and still performes the way he does

Would like to see Feagles there, I dont think there is anyone better than him in directional punts

Other possiblities: Strahan, Tuck, Mitchell, Pierce, Robbins been pretty good too

Might as well throw in Tyree for special teams.

Pretty sure Eli wont make it, he is underrated with his reads, and his fakes (that even catch the camera off guard), but there are more superior QB's in the NFC: Favre, stupid-smilling Romo, might as well throw Brees name in there too.

Eli is still a top 10 QB, but he's towards the bottom of that list =)

You can't even VOTE for Tuck!! It's ridiculous. With half the snaps of Strahan, he has the same number of sacks (9) and two more tackles (49) and one more forced fumble (2). Yet he is not even on the ballot. That's a crime.

Osi, Tuck, Strahan, Plax, Feagles, Pierce and Shockey deserve to go.

Of those, I'd bet that only Osi and maybe Shockey make it.

Tom G.. you're a nut. I'm no Eli hater, but there's one thing that will stick in the mind of every player, coach and fan when they go to vote for Eli. That horrendous game verses Minny... he was horrible and cost the G-men that game. That single game will keep Eli out of the Pro Bowl.

i would let hedgecock have sex with my wife

Oh.. and Stray, Osi, and Plax are the only G-men Pro Bowlers this year. Feagles and the O-line deserve it, but those spots aren't usually issued on performance, just name recognition.

Kurt, atleast you gave a valid reason for leaving him out. I don't want to hear these guys like Brees and Kitna over Eli....and Batman Hedgecock does deserve to have sex with your wife. Did you see him stand up Urlacher the other week.

Eli played horribly in Minnesota. But the whole team played equally as bad. They were not prepared at all. That is the most pressure that has been placed on Eli this year. And I seem to remember other QBs having worse games as far as INTs go this year: Peyton Manning (6 in one game) and Romo (5).

That being said, what about Robbins? Why shouldn't he be a pro bowler this year? By the way, does anyone know if Robbins is hurt? Why were Alford and Cofield getting so much time? I thought they both played well, just curious why Robbins wasn't out there alot in Philly.

Courtesy of Giants.com:

Manning has 2,790 passing yards and 18 touchdown passes and needs 210 yards and two scoring passes to join Phil Simms as the only Giants quarterbacks with 3,000+ yards and at least 20 touchdown passes three years in a row. Simms did it from 1984-86.

That's got to mean something to some of you old timers.

Hedgecock can curl Urlacher. i once saw him curl a 76' cadilac deville without hesitating. Snee does deserve the nod but dont think he'll get it until next season. same with tuck.

Strahan.

No one else deserves it.

It would be nice to have a Pro Bowl Caliber QB wearing Big Blue colors. Unfortunately, it's not happening this season. Maybe in 2008. Or 2009. After Eli's sent to whatever reward bad QB's get. I think it's getting to start for the Raiders....

Only bowl game Manning should go to is the toilet bowl.
He is horrible.
Giants fans are now satisfied when he doesn't have a horrendous game and manages to do nothing bad.
That is now our new quarterback and our level of expectation.
Forget about a quarterback who leads a team to victory
Would love to ask Accoursi exactly what he saw in Eli

Tom G. you've kind of side-stepped your original post, saying that Eli should go to the Pro-bowl, the fact of the matter is he is not the best QB in the NFC

Is he a good QB-yes
Can he play better than he has shown-yes
Is it his responsibilitiy to play better? the coaches? the recievers? I dont know

Everyone has seen Eli's potential, he has made some unbelievalbe throws, and at the same time he has made some horrible throws in the same game, does it really matter though the Giants are 9-4 and on there way to another playoff spot, which I just cant wait to pull an opset in Seattle or more likely Tampa

Eli had one of his best games vs Dallas week 1, with 4 TD's, 1 pick (because Plax slipped)
And had his worse game vs Vikings with 4 picks and 1 TD (ironic actually) all in the same season

The offense needs to score more points, be more productive in the red zone, and keep the chains moving. Until this offense is at the point there suppose to be, Eli will not be going to the pro-bowl

Eli had the worst seven consecutive qtrs. of quarterbacking a team that I have seen in watching Giant football for fifty plus years.
Minn. whole game and first three qtrs. of Bear game.
Most of damage in fourth qtr. of Bear game was done running.
In fact, to see a team run on third down and three or four yards to go in fourth qtr. when behind tells me everything you need to know about Eli.
Remember the three picks we gave up for Eli all went to Pro Bowl last year and forget we passed on Ben R.
Remember Accoursi thought he was best college in last twenty years.

They made a mistake getting Eli.

It happens.

The Chargers made a mistake getting Ryan Leaf. The Lions made a mistake getting Joey Harrington. And so on...

The question is....how long before the powers that be admit to the mistake and do something about it....

Eli's not a terrible quarterback, but he's far from a great QB, and I don't think he'll ever be, even with the best coaches in the history of the game.
But I do think the Giants can dominate the NFL again with Eli, if they can build a defensive core around him that ruins games. If the Gints can get a consistent, year-after-year D like the Ravens or Steelers, Eli will light it up. Picture the damage they would do if they were the 2000 Ravens but instead of Dilfer, we have Eli, Jacobs, Shockey, Plex, and some young, speedy rookies.

Eli Manning is Big Blue's version of Koy Detmer. He is Dave Brown brought back from the dead...

I like Eli and am happy he is on the Giants but as far as the Pro Bowl goes, he isnt in the top three. Favre,Romo,Hassleback deserve it more and are on winning teams also.

Would love to see Feagles.

Plaxico probably deserves it because many WR's are hurt in the NFC. Would be interesting if he goes because of injury.

Osi is the second leading defensive vote getter, so there's not much question that he's in. In fact, I would wager that he was in after his fourth sack in Philly. The last two sacks and the Dilfer sack/forced fumble/recovery/TD were just icing on the cake. Those plays were very exciting and high profile, which seems to be the most important selection criteria.

Strahan absolutely deserves it and I really hope he makes it. He's having a tremendous year as is Tuck, but of course he's not on the ballot. Next year.

Snee was close last year, so I think he'll make it this year. Especially considering our record and the success of the running game despite all the injuries.

Shockey may make it and deserves it as an all around TE, but receiving stats are more exciting and he may not have enough to make it. Might get in on reputation, though.

I'd like to see Feagles make it, but I don't think he has the numbers.

Hedgecock should make it for his name alone, but I don't know how other NFC fullbacks have been doing. Not a very high profile position.

Plax doesn't have the numbers lately, but he still might make it. He was tearing it up in the first half of the season and most fans had already voted by the time his production dropped off. He's also had some real exciting plays and may be the first player to start every game and miss every practice. It would be nice to end the probowl WR drought the Giants have been in the last several decades.

I suppose Pierce and Robbins have a chance, but I don't think it's a very good one.

I think offensively you can make a case for B. Jacobs. He has missed a couple games but he is third in the NFC in yds/gm his yardage is really good despite the fact he has missed numerous games. I think Shockey will be an alternate becasue he has Witten and Cooley in front of him in almost all categories. Plex I guess you could make a case for, but he got so cold in the middle of the season I don't think he can. Snee I think def should go. Hedgecock I think should def go the Giants run game has been great this year no matter whose lining up in the backfield and he's been a huge part of that.

Defensivley: I think you have to start with looking at Gibril. He is top ten in tackles, top 5 in Int's, and top 5 in Pass deflections. Also, although all three of are DE had unbelievable years Osi is the only one with a realistic chance to get there

Brian Urlacher wears Madison Hedgecock pajamas

Well Tom G.

Detriot (not taking in considation sacks, just attempts rushing and passing) 36% rushing compared to 64% passing.

Kitna 5% of his 298 completions are for TD's, and 4% are INT's. He has 15 TD's and 12 Ints.

Giants is 46% rushing compared to 54% passing.

Eli 7.2% of his 250 completetions are for TD's, and 6.8% are for Ints. He has 18 TD's and 17 Ints.

The biggest difference is the Giants have a better rushing attack and O line.

Oh geez, if we're down to comparing ourselves to the Lions, we are in deep doo doo. You have to go back to the Stone Age to find a champion Lion team. They are one of the few teams in the NFL that have NEVER been to the dance...not even close. 9 and 7 is a great year in Detroit.

Batman is a badass

Not sure what the Lions comparison was for... All I know Eli wins and we we need him to make play in the 4th quarter he does.

Batman is a badass.

Osi did most of his damage in one game but will get in. Me-first Mikey has had a more consistent season and, even though he's no longer my favorite player as he was in the late '90s, deserves to go to. Tuck isn't on the ballot and probably won't get in.

We have a balanced offense but, quite frankly, none of our skill position players deserve to go other than Plax. If he doesn't get in it will be because of his # of receptions.

As far as the offensive line, O'Hara must be recognized. He has been so consistent over the past three years. Snee is good but got beat badly for much of the Philly game. I love what Diehl has done this year. Petitgout who?

There is no way Pierce or Gibril will get in. As much as he is a great leader, Pierce has had an underachieving season when you compare his stats from 2007 to 2005 -- he was WAY better that year before he got hurt. That was our biggest injury that year without question. And Gibril, if you ask me, has been somewhat of a disappointment since his breakout rookie season of 2004. He can and should be playing better. I think he likes to party too much, as I saw him at an Albany TB (DiCarlo's) late one Thursday night in August 2006.

And it would be nice if the seasoned vet Feagles got in -- he has been our MVP at different times the past three years -- but stats make Pro Bowlers, and SF's punter by far has the best.

And, like someone else said, anyone who thinks Eli deserves to go is smoking something. And STOP COMPARING HIM TO PHILL SIMMS.

1984: Simms throws for over 4,000 yards, leads Giants to 9-7 record and 16-13, first-round playoff win over Dickerson's Rams before we lose to eventual SB champ 49ers

1985: Simms leads Jints to 10-6 record and 17-3 first-round playoff win over SF -- our first home playoff game in 25 years --before we lose to eventual SB champ Bears.

1986: We all know what happens. Simms 22-of-25 for 268, 3 TD in SB domination of Broncos.

2005: Eli sparks 6-2 start but regresses down stretch and lays an egg in our worst home playoff loss ever.

2006: Eli sparks 6-2 start but regresses down the stretch and we make playoffs on Tiki's back before losing in first round again.

2007: ?
