Plax: Ankle's worse

So he said today. "This is probably the worst it's felt," he said after the Giants' jog-through. He has no plans to take a game off though, noting that he had a whole week off and it didn't get better.

"I'll be glad when it's all over and I can rest it," he said.

Eli was also good, standing up for himself to a question about whether he feels worse because of the way he played. "I'm not the one to blame for a loss," he said. "You're going to lose games, it's part of football. You win the next one, you're back in a good spot."

Still a lot of confidence all the way around the room. "There's a totally different attitude," Gibril Wilson said. "Guys aren't worried about what happened last year, last week, yesterday. We're thinking about what's next."

Kareem McKenzie said his bruised back felt "spectacular," though that's just because he likes multisyllable words.

Lots of debate among the scribes about whether Kevin Boss' and Chris Snee's holding calls were valid and whether Romo was over the line on his first TD pass. What do you all say?

The holding calls were BS, but there are bad calls against both teams in every game. Good teams overcome those.

Our Giants lost because the Defense is not as good as they think they are (Dallas was moving the ball at will most of the second half) and our Offense seems to get away from what was successful - something they did last year as well. They were moving the ball in the first half with short passes and lots of running. In the second, they seemed to get away from that. Even if they make the playoffs, Coughlin should be replaced. John Fox or Bill Cowher would be good places to start looking.

Additionally, we still need one more good LB (Kiwi should be rushing the QB as a DL, dammit!), another shut-down corner to pair with Ross (Webster is officially a bust, I guess) and a big-time safety.

And Roy Williams is the most over-rated player in the NFL. The guy gets better press than Jesus even though he's a safety who's an utter liability in coverage! Shockey ate him alive all day. Williams sucks.

At first I thought Romo was past the line on that TD pass but, thanks to the magic a DVR, I watched it over and over, and it looks like his last step was about a foot behind the line, then he did a kind of a jump pass thing and landed over the line. Now, the ball definitely left his had in front of the line of scrimmage, but his last step was behind it. I guess that means it was fair, right?
The holding calls were BS, though.

Arthur, why are the giants 5-11 in 4 pm games under Coughlin? Is that just some freak stat or is there any legitimacy behind it?

Plax should sit and rest the ankle for a game or two. He has been bad for the last three games, and was nonexistent against Dallas. I don't see how it helps us to have a WR out there playing who obviously can't make any plays any more. Our downfield threat was negligible other than one Shockey catch, whereas Dallas (again) made several long plays.

The holding call on Boss was BS. The one on Snee could have been called either way, I thought.

But the Giants secondary was bad again, and the D-Line certainly did not live up to the hype. Romo often had all day to throw.

Alex S - not a bad idea to rest him for a game or two, but the question is when? All the coming opponents are ones we SHOULD beat but we know how that story goes..

The injury to Steve Smith and the in ineptness of Sinorce Moss make it harder to rest him. Can't they bring Anthony Mix back from the practice squad? He would fit in well spelling Burress in that position because he has the same body type and good hands.

Absoultly hated the call on Boss, didnt even affect the run, my man Bradshaw finally takes it to the house, and it gets called back (did he prove himself for start KR yet?) The game seem to go south after that pentality

You really have to say Eli was fan-fricken-tastic the frist half

Think he was something like 13 for 15 168 yrds, 1 TD, 1 Int (his arm got hit, it happens)

He had good fakes, couple times faked the camera, almost got sacked and threw it away to hit shockey down the field. And we all remember with 23 seconds left, after the taunting pentality hits shockey for 20-30 yards and sets up a FG to tie it at the half

Then Second half, where nobody was playing good, and those stupid pentatilites caught up to us. Think 1-15 yards first half, then 6-50 yards second half pentalities, have to get that under control

One overlooked statement is the fact that the Giants defense pretty much controlled Dallas running game, of course there were a few plays, but for the most part M. Barber didnt make any moves he was famous for.

Another overlooked fact was great special teams plays, 1st kickoff coverage wasnt that good, but after that everything was solid, Kickoffs, Punts, KR, FG's, all played very good

Giants secondary needs to be imporved

I think, if Steve Smith is able to go vs Lions, they should sit Plax, or atleast keep him to limited play, he needs to be healthy

Really need Smith and Ward to get back, they add another dynamic force to the game

Lets not take anything away from Dallas, there 8-1, you dont get that way from being lucky, The giants beat themselves, and it hurts to say that.

I believe we will see them agian in the Post season, and a little side note, are the Colts the second half 2006 NY Giants? Dont think Eli has thrown 6 picks in a game, maybe 3

oh and for goodness sake, get rid of those awful red jersey

Its big blue, not big red

What are they 0-4, maybe 1-3 in those things

The holding calls were bs, but the delay of game calls were not and they were really the backbreakers. Inexcusable if you ask me. Never seen a team get so many in so little time. At home no less. Anyway, the Giants lost this game, but I still think we're going to be okay. Next game against the Lions is huge. Should be favored in every contest until the Pats. Hey Arthur, what happened on the Cowboys first touchdown? Looked like Butler's mistake on coverage, but don't know.

Glad you asked.

I re-watched segments of the game last night.

First Dallas play from scrimmage - an egregious hold on Butler that sprang the play for 20 yards. Holding!!! No flag. No ten yard penalty.

Then the last play of that same drive: Romo - definitely over the line. the LOS was exactly on the 15 yard line. His foot was planted one foot behind the mark. His momentum and his duck and toss brought the ball well beyond the 15 yard line when it left his hand. It was obvious on replay. Illegal forward pass!!! No flag.

The hold on Snee? Nice acting job by Roy Williams. Roy twisted and turned and contorted his body, but all Snee was doing was pushing on his shoulder pad with his left hand. No jersey was in his grip and Roy pulled cleanly away - far from the play. It was a great run and Snee was pulling on the play to block. Unfortunate call, but they usually happen that way when you play Dallas.

No one has mentioned it yet - but I saw Brandon Jacobs horse collared twice and Amani Toomer once. I guess those type of tackles are legal again - when was the rule changed back?

And speaking of holding - I couldn't see much of the Dallas o-line thanks to the crappy TV coverage - but you don't get that type of time in the pocket without a lot of holding. Ask Strahan about it - I think he was complaining to the refs. Far be it for Troy "Fanboy" Aikmen to bring it up.

I'm with the other fans out there who are wondering about those delay of game penalties. I smell a rat and his name rhymes with Gevin Kilbride.

As for the rest of the season. I like my team. I like Eli, I like our players. I like our chances. I was let down the most by the performance of the defense - the secondary blew too many coverages. The pass rush was weak a times, and the "d" in general did nothing to confuse Romo. The good news is that I like our coach Spags - who is just going to get better - as is the defense. He tried some new things with stunts and what not but they didn't work. Back to the drawing board.

The offense - Gilbride again. Exploiting the matchups with Shockey and Roy Williams is just common sense - but it left us too one-dimensional. Too many coverage sacks. No receivers were open. Bring back Antony Mix!!! Send Moss deep. Maybe Smith will be able to contribute...but more importantly you have to use more play action and engineer routes that will fool the defense. Dallas played us superbly. Shockey and Brandon Jacobs are not enough against a team that knows your plays better than you do. Fire Gilbride.

Other than that - I like our chances going down the stretch. This team could have beaten Dallas, this team should have beaten Dallas.

I hope we see them in the playoffs.

That's all for now.

So much for any honesty on this blog... There is so much talent on this team - except for the QB position. Eli looked / looks good on paper - he is a top 10 QB - BUT - he will not take us to the promised land. He does not have the leadership or fire (point: his post game interview and his demeanor in EVERY game! Some say he's calm - I say he's depressing...). Those intangibles do not show up on his position stats but they make all the difference on the W/L list! Hey, its his personality and I am not knocking the guy for being himself, but ask yourself the following - would YOU want to go to war (or even Detroit) with this guy leading you? Dallas was the better team on Sunday, at least be honest and admit we were beaten...and you can print that...

PS - John Bligh - you may have a point about our D, and not just last Sunday...
