« Derrick Ward out | Main | Uh, recap anyone? »

Inactives -- no Adrian Peterson for Minny

Also no Antoine Winfield and no Mike Doss for the Vikes' lousy secondary.

For the Giants: Jacobs, Ward, Steve Smith, Corey Webster, Adam Koets, Manny Wright, Kevin Boothe. Dave Tollefson makes his Giants debut. Lorenzen is the third QB.

Pathetic. Hmm, trap games are for animals? Eli needed to lead today, he is playing his way to the bench.

Wow, two picks against one of the worst pass defenses in football... without their best corner. This is not making me all warm and fuzzy.

Giants are beating themselves yet agian

TOOOO many mistakes, mis-reads, drop balls, Pentalties

Just need one player to Wake up this Giants team, maybe Bradshaw can use some of his magic to turn the upcoming KR into a touchdown, then just a 10 point game

If Giants dont turn this around, this one will be lossed

Fire everyone. I'm sick of losing.

The offense is un-prepared, confused, out of sync, and generally pathetic.

Shame on Kevin Gilbride.

Funny how I've never heard anyone use the phrase 'a well designed play' when discussing the Giants' offense.

It's time to FIRE Kevin Gilbride.

-Big BB

Umm... Wasn't Tarvaris Jackson and the Vikes' passing game supposed to suck?

Also, could the defense maybe actually tackle somebody in the backfield please?

Arthur,

How many times in the last 3 games have we seen our offense penalized for illegal formations, twelve men in the huddle, illegal substitutions, delay of games, and false starts?

These penalties are all avoidable.

Isn't the offensive coordinator responsible for preventing these mistakes?

Wouldn't it appear to you that Kevin Gilbride is asleep at the wheel?

If Coughlin doesn't fire him - then shouldn't Coughlin be fired?

-Big BB

Coughlin should be held responsible for the penalties regardless. Stupid penalties were one of the things Coughlin vowed to fix, and he hasn't.

No, get rid of everyone.

I'm 22. I barely remember the Giants winning the Super Bowl and I wish I could forget what happened the last time they were there. My whole life the Giants have been horrible.

You start the season with hope, they win a few games and even get to the playoffs. In the end, I'm always left watching other teams winning Super Bowls and the Giants cleaning out their lockers.

I'm sick of this.

Fire everyone.

41-10, 4th INT, if TC does not send Eli to the showers he should be fired by 5pm today. The entire offense was off, but Eli was miserable from the first snap. That false start was all him, totally unprepared running around behind the line like a frantic rookie. His day had better be over. Sickening.

He is back, hope he throws another TD to the other guys. Nothing good comes from him being on the field, and the shame of a benching is absolutely deserved. Coughlin worst move of the season, matching Manning's worse game ever.

Giants need to trade ELI, draft a QB. i am a Giants fan and I'm tired of the lack of fire with this guy. he is not a leader, maybe in 10 years but not today. Tiki's comments were correct. you can't make this kid a leader he needs to sit on the bench for the remainder of the season. if we make the playoffs we just don't have an offensive leader at the QB position.

Very good point, Big BB, about Gilbride. He is a joke. He was a joke as a QB coach (Eli went from playing like a vet to a rookie to a college QB) and he is even more of a joke as offensive coordinator. How can we not be in sync with our route-running by now? How can we be getting flagged for things that should only happen in Weeks 1-4? Can we have a little imagination or innovation in our play calling?

This is the beginning of the end. Eli is going to s*it the bed again at Chicago and Philly, and by then we'll be 7-6 and in a dead heat for a WC berth. Pretty scary considering we have to play the Pats in Week 17, when they may be chasing history the same way Denver was in 1998.

Come to think of it, I would be happy right now if Kent Graham was our QB.

Another collapse might be the best thing for us, though. Then Reese will have no excuse not to clean house and bring in Bill Cowher, who no doubt will at least have the foresight to sign a capable backup to light a fire under uninspired Eli's little ass.

I said all offseason that the Giants should have pursued Jeff Garcia, if for nothing else than a little insurance for Eli. But the Giants wanted to express their full confidence in Eli, and they miscalculated. Now they have no option but to watch him help sink our ship again.

Between the injuries, the penalties and the continued second-half swoons, it is time to realize that this is the same old Coughlin we're dealing with. This team is cursed with this guy at the helm.

Same with Eli. Kid needs to start hitting the weight room or the treadmill a little bit. He has absolutely no mobility and has not bulked up at all since 2004. He is not tough, is not a leader and cannot make something out of nothing the way winning QBs in this league must. It was embarrassing watching him TRY to scramble around the way his father DID. Offensive linemen could beat him in a footrace.

Have you ever seen the blank stare on his face before games? He definitely is a tool, just not the sharpest in the shed. He must have cheated on his Wonderlik test.

I know I'm being very harsh, but I have no patience for pussyboy Eli anymore. He is NEVER going to be someone who we can count on to win games for us. But he'll definitely lose them for us.

Unfortunately, because of what we have already invested in him he probably is going to be around for at least another two seasons. We should at least start building a back-up plan.

Like it or not, Eli is the quarterback next season and probably through 2009, at least. The "draft a new QB" stuff is pointless. It's not going to happen and 2008 looks to be a weak quarterback draft. Brohm is overrated (average arm, gets flustered when there's pressure and he can't throw on the move) and Colt Brennan is Timmy Chang crossed with Brodie Croyle. Don't let those Tecmo Bowl numbers at Hawaii fool you. The Giants will probably wind up picking in the high 20s and the position to address there would be OLB or DB.

Eli's not going to get benched, either. Anthony Wright isn't going to do better. And Lorenzen is the equivalent of a basketball player who lacks fundamentals and only gets minutes because he's 6'8" and can jump real high. He's big, has a cannon arm and can move a little bit - nothing else.

Disappointing game nonetheless

I dont know who is making the calls, but all the interceptions seem to happen in the middle of the field, hmmm maybe not have your quarterback take any more chances in the middle, go to the sidelines, throw a deep one, anything

This was not Eli's fault, there were plenty of mistakes that everyone made, WR/TE running the wrong routes, missed tackles, pentalities, DROP BALLS (giants are tied 2nd with bears for dropped balls, thats pathetic)

Bradshaw was pretty good, 4 carries for 29 yards, compared to Droughns 15 carries for 46 yards

They should of played Bradshaw more, he seemed to be that spark for the offense when he was in there, has to work on little things like picking up the Blitz

Defense did pretty good on Run defense on the RB's not so good on the QB rushing

Special Teams did good not great, had that 40 yard pentalty for kicking it out of bounds on opener

Hopefully everyone will learn from thier mistakes, kind of like that Colts-Jags game last year, where Indy got ran over and they realized they had a probelm in their run defense that needed to be fix

This game was tough to swallow, but Giants are still in pretty good shape at 7-4, let see how they response next week vs Bears

Anyone know the skinny on getting Ward and/or Jacobs back next week?

I think Jerry Reese has believed all along that this was a throwaway season -- the playoffs would be gravy at this point. He was stuck with Coughlin's contract and kept him because, let's face it, there weren't many candidates who could do better with the current roster. To Coughlin's credit, 7-4 is about as good as it gets with this group.

I have withheld judgment on Eli, benefit of the doubt and all that. No more, and I bet the Giants' brass feels the same way.

Jimmy Clausen, anyone? (ha ha)

Funny how everyone says time for Eli to go

If Eli was Peyton, during that chargers game, and he threw 6-picks what then?

Time to get rid of P. Manning? I dont think so

Giants are 7-4, still winning record, top spot for Wild card, yea Eli had a bad game, but he still wins, and you cannont blame this game entirely on him, the team loss, not one individual person

who would you rather have?
P. Rivers - No thanks
C. Pennington- nope
S. McNair- no
D. McNabb- no
R. Grossman-no
T. Green-no

Thats half the teams Quarterbacks last year that went to the playoffs, and I would not trade Eli for anyone of them.

yeah the giants suck blah blah blah.. cut the lead to 14 and the big bad D let the Vikings go n you standard 12 + play drive and waste 9 plus minutes. This D never comes up big.. nice missd tackles on the QB for minimum 2 more sacks and taylor on about 4 plays..

they suck, they read there press clippings and got embarassed at home.

disgrace..

newsflash morons they are not drafting a QB get over it...

there is no way Droughns is a everyday back, too damn slow......

Unfortunately, Steve B. is right and so was Arthur.

Every year is a mirage.

"Funny how everyone says time for Eli to go

Umm... Peyton has a little bit more equity than Eli.

Pathetic performance. Did anyone notice the BeeGees music while the vikings took the field?

"Umm... Peyton has a little bit more equity than Eli."

Dont know what you mean by equity?

fairness(economics term)?
equalism?

But the point I was trying to make was just because he had one bad game, which many QB's have, even P. Manning (one of the top QBs in the league), doesnt mean he should get the entire blame for the loss(it was the team not just Eli) and that Giants should get a new QB

Dont know if many ppl know this but Eli is on set to have 3,000+ yards, 20+ TDs in three consecutive seasons, the only Giants QB to do that was Phil Simms (the one that won the Super bowl)

Giants are also on there way to 3 consecutvie playoff appearances, dont think that has been done since Bill Parcells coached the Giants

Thats saying something right there

I am sick and f***ing tired of all the negitivity about Eli. IT IS NOT ALL HIS FAULT. There are many other factors in this game that went wrong offensively. Plax's ankle, Shockey not running routes the way he is supposed to, and oh yeah, THE VIKINGS DEFENSE!! Give the Vikings some credit on how well the planned and played this game before you start bashing Eli for Pete's sakes. It's obvious Kevin Gilbride did'nt thouroghly plan right for these guys, neither did Coughlin. The Gmen will be just fine when they calm down, study film, get some players back on the field(Ward and Jacobs), and take care of buisness in Chicago.

i'm not a Eli basher, but with days like this, he makes it pretty darn hard to defend him... and what's more frustrating is the lack of reaction : Rex Grossman came back from a pick & a fumble to lead his team from behind. I hope the vetrans don't let that season go down the drain.
i wish we get our running backs back, let Paxico rest that ankle for a couple of weeks, don't let ELi drop back and hope for the best.

The only way this could all get worse would be if the eagles beat the pats.

It isn't all Eli's fault. There is no statistic for WRs blowing routes. Still he had that deer in the headlight look like Collins used to get.

"The only way this could all get worse would be if the eagles beat the pats."

lol i was thinking the same thing, close game but pats are still undefeated

actually gives me a little hope to see the Pats not do so good vs pressure

Gonna be intresting to see Giants vs them, only one Problem, I dont have NFL Network like 100 million other ppl, hopefully they will get a settlement or atleast prodcast on another channel. if the Pats go 15-0 and there vs the Giants on NFL newtwork, theres gonna be alot of angry ppl. Everyone will be watching that game, Giants fans, patriots hators, 30 other teams....lets get this cable vs NFL network crap taken care of

Steve B., scroll down to definition #7: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=equity

My point was that Peyton gets more of a pass for a bad game because his bad games are few and far between. And because he's Peyton Manning, defending Super Bowl champ, 2-time MVP, 7-time Pro Bowler, future Hall of Famer, and the man who will probably own every QB record before he retires. Eli doesn't have that resume as an anti-reproach shield because he's got a lower career QB rating and a worse TD:INT ratio than Aaron Brooks (look it up).

In addition to those 3,000 yards (which isn't a big total in today's NFL), Eli is on pace to throw a career-high 22 interceptions. He's been top 4 in the league in interceptions in each of his three seasons as starter, and his 15 INTs (18 total turnovers) leads the league.

You can make the argument that some people are being too critical of him (and I don't think the loss was all his fault). But anyone can make the argument that you're wearing the Ole Miss red-colored sunglasses.

"No Giants quarterback has ever had three interceptions returned for touchdowns in one game and it hasn't been done in the NFL since 1984. We're talking historic badness here and it came against the NFL's worst-ranked pass defense."

I think that just about says it all...

Gmen79, I am not an Eli hater, expected him to have impressive game vs MN. The entire offense was off, but he looked particularly unprepared and out of sync. I still expect big things for him, but it is time to turn up the heat and get a reaction. The Bears rolled, and Grossman was making the plays Eli could not. It is a monster game, without a locker room asskicking I think we limp into a game with big playoff implications. The stage was set, the entire offense failed with him leading the way. That game sucked, start to finish.

Give the Vikings credit. They confused Eli and out played the Giants. I am amazed by the level of arrogance among the media and many Giant Fans from Long island. Two punks from LI sat behind us and were disrespectful to us simply because we were Viking Fans. The game became much more enjoyable yesterday when the two idiots left the game along with 60,000 other giant fans when the Vikings went ahead 40 to 10. Go Purple!

Actually, if the Eagles had beaten the Pats, would have done the Giants a favor. If the Pats face the Giants at 14-1, everyone sits. If they face them 15-0, Belichick will be chasing history, and the Giants will be crushed mercilessly.
