The cuts -- So long, Will Demps

OK, here's the list of cuts:

QB Tim Hasselbeck
K Josh Huston
DT Jonas Seawright
TE Charles Davis
WR Brandon London
WR Kevin McMahan
OL Justin Jones
OL Jon Dunn
OL Matt Lentz
OL Ryan Keenan
DE Marquies Gunn
DE Tommy Davis
DT Tui Alailafaleula
LB James Davis
LB Tyson Smith
CB Gerrick McPhearson
CB E.J. Underwood
CB Darren Barnett
S J.R. Reed
P Cory Ohnesorge

In addition, S Will Demps was placed on injured reserve and RB Ryan Grant was dealt to the Packers for an undisclosed draft pick. And OL Todd Londot was waived/injured (neck).

So the Giants are at 52 players, with the 53rd due to report on Monday... A certain veteran DE.

Demps' agent, Tony Agnone, told me a few minutes ago that he and the Giants will work out an injury settlement and Demps will become a free agent. His elbow was healing nicely, but TC and Jerry Reese decided he wasn't worth hanging onto.

So that means that the commenter who was talking up Craig Dahl must be TC himself... Wow. The kid did get better as camp went along, But the Giants' backup safeties are Craig Dahl and Michael Johnson. Just thought you should know that.

On the bubble types that were kept: QB Anthony Wright, DT Manny Wright, K Lawrence Tynes, TE Michael Matthews, OL Adam Koets and CB Kevin Dockery.

Of those, Tynes is the real surprise... But I'll be even more surprised if he's on the roster for opening night. Too many kickers will come available.

The Demps move is only really arguable if you think he was a good player. TC noted today that Johnson had an "eye-opener" of a game against the Jets, and Dahl did the same against the Patriots. Not sure this was entirely TC's call, but Demps wasn't able to give the Giants a good season last year because of his knee, and the team's new mantra (younger and healthier) fits with letting Demps go. He'll play somehwere this year.

Underwood may not make it through waivers to reach the practice squad, but if he does, I bet he's a Giant in 2008.

That's all for now.

DT Jonas Seawright - ok, so I spend two years reading off-season and pre-season reports about how this mammoth dude is prepping for the season with new maturity, about how he could be the diamond in the rough that makes it easier to stomach Willie 'Jo' BUST and our overall lack of DT depth. He loses weight, takes training camp seriously, etc. Ugh - cant' even make the friggin team!?! It's weird, b/c we never really know how these young guys are going to fare. Art - do you think it's a case of he didn't get the right type of coaching? Could it really have been a numbers game - ok, I didn't expect him to beat Robbins or Cofield, but c'mon, there were opportunities PEOPLE! or, perhaps, all the sports writers just needed a story to write about, and he was more interesting than others? I'm bringing this to light, b/c it happens with lots of young players, and that's ok, it's what gets us excited - finding diamonds in the rough - but this guy was something to get excited about, and then 'poof', he stunk. Sorta frustrating as a fan.

If they don't pick up a different kicker I would bet the ranch they lose at least one game this year because of it.

I'd bet they'd lose more than one, Bill.

I am shocked that they kept Koets over Lentz and Londot. He has looked terrible both in games and practice.

Judging last year with all the fgs instead of tds, we'll probably lose 3-4 games from Tynes bad kicking!

By keeping all of the draft picks, Doesn't it make the GM look Good...I saw every game and Koets looked awful (well, the last one he sat out).

I don t understand! Are there any other teams who kept all of their pics???

They better be work out or I am wondering if we can really evaluate talent

If we are still looking for a good/ healthy OT, CB or S, then why not hit the trade market a offer a #5 or a #4 next year?
