Reports have Osi Umenyiora out up to 8 weeks with a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee and Brandon Jacobs out 3-5 weeks with a sprained right MCL.
A person familiar with Eli's shoulder injury said the QB appears to be OK, with just a bruise. He should be ready to play against the Packers, but it's doubtful he'll do much throwing this week.
More after the official word in an hour or so.

I know Reese won't do this, but I think the Giants should consider bringing back Brandon Short.
But maybe that's just because I'm his biggest fan.
P.S. I know we don't need linebackers, we need more help in the secondary. But it was no secret last season that Brandon Short was our playmaker.
Any plans to move Kiwanuka back to end now?
I think John and Pete's comments are pretty much related. If the Giants could find a halfway decent OLB and move Kiwi back to DE, that would shore up two positions simultaneously.
Or... has anyone signed Strahan's BFF Simeon Rice yet?
The Osi injury is devastating given our lack of depth on the D-line. Strahan is at least 3 weeks away from being in game condition.
I don't think the team has an alternative other than to move Kiwi back to DE. Awasom was horrible out there and Strahan is 3/4 weeks away from being in game shape.
Eli was big last night. He finally has a chance to prove to the football world that he isnt "the other manning qb".
I am a hoping that he will be game ready for week 2.
Afterall, HE is my fantasy football qb keeper.
Tuck is fine on one side, and Joseph didn't look too bad playing end in preseason.
Brandon Short? Are you kidding me? Ugly!!!
Let Blackburn play OLB.
And McQuarters and Butler were horrible last night. Well the whole D was, but those two were bad.
Hopefully Eli is heading in the right direction - 35 pts should be a win for any team on any weekend! Also, you heard it from me first - Strahan is no LT, not even close - and you can print that!
mortenson on espn reporting his giants sources say eli's shoulder is slightly separated...hopefully he was wrong but the giants could be claiming he'll play to throw off the pack. Lets hope theyre not.
I'm no doctor, but is it possibly for someone to have a slightly separated shoulder? Either your shoulder is in your socket, or it's not, right? I think espn might just be trying to hype things up like they typically do.
why do I have to turn on espn and see that eli is out atleast a month. What is the truth here? I hate espn already but if they pull this crap, for starters im blowing chris mortensens head off.
My head feels like it wants to bust open.
Anyone have a read on how many times the Jints D blitzed? Was Romo ever touched?
Other blogs are now reporting that Osi will only be out 1 month.
Way to be on top of these stories, Staple. If you're going to write and maintain a blog, the least you can do is recognize that blogs are an instant medium that require more or less real time attention. See Ralph Vacchiano's blog for example. I sure as hell will.
Steve young says there are degrees of severity for a separated shoulder, and it ranges from 4 weeks recovery to a few months. Lets hope for the former, especially since he thought it was just a bruise
Jacobs will never be durable if he refuses to go down when he has 5 opponents hanging on him! I can understand if its 4th and 2 or 3rd quarter and its a one possession game etc but seriously....!!! Go down and save yourself. You don't have to prove you are the biggest back in the NFL. It's very obvious when you are bigger than all the defensive linebackers! I am so furious!! I blame the coaches for not engraving that into his head. My Monday is ruined.
Amen, Gene. Coughlin's time is up. We don't need a coach hanging on to try and save his job. We need a Bill Cowher summobitch type who will grab these boys by the collar and instill DISCIPLINE!
"Pressure is the result of not being prepared"
Defensive lineman playing OLB. Ball hawk he is not.
No and I mean no true full back on the team. Converting a tight end to full back that's what you do in flag football not the NFL.
And finally you know your GM is a jerk when he says "Pettigout was a marginal player" That marginal player protected the QB's blind side for 8 years.
Its going to be a long year.
Go Giants.
just about as bad a start as could possibly happen. losing two starters right off the bat. only good that may come out of this situation will be finding out who the players are, and those who are not. hopefully, there will be a sleeper or two in the pack.
finally eli came up big and seems to have developed considerably. umeiyora is day to day that report about him being out eight weeks was false he just has irritaion and the reports that say eli has a seperated shoulder are also false he has a second degree bruise and both he and tom coughlin deny the report of a seperated shoulder thank god because he was the only good thing last night and i agree about brandon short we need him and kiwanuka just isnt cut out for line backer he was getting burned all night good thing the eagles suck too
oh and by the way gene the play jacobs got hurt he wasnt refusing to get tackled some guys ass stuck out and he ran into it so he can be a durable player and hes better than everything they have the offense had zero to do with that loss it was the defense and whoever disagrees is a fool all they have to do is get more pressure send a linebacker every once and a while a good pass rush can cover up for the worst of secondaries remember that and remeber it took the giants till week three to get the defense going good thing they are playing greenbay and washington the next two weeks they will be ready for the eagles and hopefully be 2-1 by then
Jacobs for a month or so is not bad. Last night wasn't an abberation for Ward. He can play and he is a tough runner with a burst. And the guys behind him are capable of spelling him. I'm more concerned about Osi (and of course Eli). Osi is by far our best defensive player at this point.
osi is only day to day so hopefully he will play this week its only irritation but if eli doesnt play there is a serious problem even if they are only playing the packers he says he isnt too sore or even in that much pain well see how it goes but maybe take a chance on getting leftwitch for the bench? just incase cuz the "pills berry throwboy" wont cut it
