The Strahan Update: TC left a voicemail for Strahan, Strahan left a voicemail for TC. I'll pass you all a note in bio class if there's any more news about this nonsense.
Pretty uneventful afternoon session -- Burress and Toomer rested, along with Osi Umenyiora, and Corey Webster and Justin Tuck participated. Webster ran with the 2s opposite Aaron Ross and Tuck ran with the 2s at LDE, which means he'll be with the 1s in Strahan's spot soon enough.
Catch of the day goes to Steve Smith, who laid out with full extension to grab a 30-yard sideline throw from Jared Lorenzen. Smith still ran with the second unit offense despite the absence of Burress and Toomer; Sinorice Moss and Michael Jennings were with the 1s, and Jennings continued his solid day.
Kawika Mitchell dropped a sure INT from Manning that was intended for Shockey.
As to the comments... Robert Douglas looks big, but I did not weigh him. Maybe tomorrow.
And Craig Dahl? Really? He's like the fourth-string SS and he hasn't picked anything off, nor been burned too bad. I'll keep you posted.
Back at you tomorrow, gang.

I believe he has the potential to suprise people. He is very smart, very athletic and a good character guy. The knock on him, is his small school background. With Bell going down for the year, I think there is a good chance he makes the team.
Oh and thank you for giving that report on him.
Is James Butler actually better than Will Demps?
I've got an absolute no-brainer here. Granted, I've not looked into any salary cap implications, nor have I considered whether or not the other team is in need of another DE (I know they already have one very good one), but I think Strahan and maybe a 4th rounder for Lance Briggs (provided he signs long-term) benefits both sides greatly. Imagine the Bears defense plus Strahan. Then, the G-Men move Kiwanuka back to DE and are all set. As much as I've enjoyed watching Strahan as a player, he has absolutely zero leadership qualities, and constantly undermines his own coach. We're better off cutting bait. I think we should be actively looking to replace Plaxico after this season as well. Thoughts?
OK OK OK....everyone slow down...Dahl has NO chance of making the team, unless 3 or 4 guys get hurt. Second...i would say James Butler has better upside then Will Demps but right now its Demps...If butler get tons of playing time this pre season, i wouldnt be surprised to see him as the opening day starter. and the is NO chance of a strahan briggs deal...why would the bears give him up for a one year guy. useless....and briggs is getting WAY too much credit, he plays with Brian Urlacher, Tommie Harris, Alex Brown, And a solid secondary, he is just like will demps, looks better then he really is because theres so much talent around him.
I agree with Ralph. Plus, A 15 year veteran and a fourth-round pick wouldn't cut it for the Bears organization. They've clearly stated that they want a first-round pick for Briggs, so this shouldn't have even been brought up in the first place.
We haven't seen much of James Butler on the field, so I really can't say whether or not he should be the opening day starter...
I do not believe the Giants will move Kiwi to DE. The only time I could see him playing that position is on sure passing downs. Remember Kiwi came to the Giants, last season, needing to add weight and strength. THen they tell him that he is going to play LB. So I am sure he worked on speed and agility. If anything I would imagine he shed a few pounds, so he had more of a LB body. So for this season, he is not ready to play DE.
All of your emails are full of nonsence. Strahan will retie if he chooses too. The timing is not good, but its all about money.
Arthur, good blog. There was a time when you were away. Probem was people don't understand that you have a family and a peronnell.
Sorry guys; got into the sauce prior to that last posting.
Strahan's holdout is about $$$$. He is doing this to get more. The Giants won't pay him. They shouldn't b/c he hasn't been healthy in the past 2 years. Don't get me wrong. Helluva player. But, you have to be on the field to make an impact. After seeing what the kid from Detroit is being paid and Freeney from Indy, he wants to get paid like the top 5 DL he is.
It wouldn't surprise me to see him in another uniform. Someone that is willing to pay him.
Glad to hear Will Demps is with the 2's. We way overpaid for him and he was a major bust last season. I specifically remember him whiffing on a couple of tackles that led to long TD runs. Butler was regarded as a good prospect before health issues last year.
How's our boy Shockey doing Arthur?
KC, let us not forget that Demps also gave up that big play to Philly in January, which lead to the game winning kick...
