Round 7

Jerry Reese is leaning heavily on the west coast scouts -- Michael Johnson is 6-3, 205, so he's got some nice size, but he's a bit slow and not a terrific tackler. Must be why this is the seventh round.

One more pick to go...

Fullback? Kicker? Running back?

I think JR's draft strategy is pretty clear now.

Last year Accorsi looked to free agency to revamp our defensive backfield. That didn't work as well was desired. This year JR seems determined to have it done through the draft.

My problem is with his strategy is that he has gone after need too much, in my opinion. The only real BPA pick was probably the DT. The rest are all to fill a specific role, even if as a backup.

Realistically, we are not a Superbowl favorite next season. I think we can get to the playoffs again and hopefully win a few this time. But my point is that a lot of our need picks this draft have been reaches. As a team that needs some building, I think we should have gone for more BPA picks and see how things pan out.

Look, we won't know the outcome of this draft until the end of next season. I think Ross was a good pick. He won the Thorpe award for the best CB in the nation. He can return punts. Anyone notice how bad Johnny Morton was last year? Smith out of USC is a tough kid. He'll go over the middle and shows up in big games. The DT was a reach. I'm not sure about that one. I like the TE pick. Seems like a good athlete and blocking can be developed. Any OT picked that late in the draft is going to have holes in his game. The safety i'm surprised with. LB depth and RB would be nice. I think Kiwanuka is going to be added to our LB core. I like that, he has proven he needs to be on the field. Lets hope he can pick it up quick. Lastly, they have the PK from Ohio State and like him b/c they didn't go after Feeley or try to sign anyone else. Overall, I would give this draft a B to B-. I think the first 2 rounders will contribute immediately.

As far as the NFC East goes, the Giants draft seemed to make a lot more sense than our competitors.

Why is it so hard for the Redskins to understand the draft??
