The Giants didn't go for broke today, but this is how they're going to fill out their roster aside from the draft: Short deals for lesser-known veterans.
The biggest name added today was QB Anthony Wright. The nine-year vet started 14 games for the Ravens in three seasons and was Carson Palmer's backup in Cincinnati last season. The Giants are his fifth team. He won't exactly challenge Eli Manning for the No. 1 spot, but he'll be a backup with significant NFL experience, unlike Eli's backups the last two seasons.
The Giants also added DT Marcus Bell and DB Michael Stone, both six-year NFLers. Bell was a starter for the Lions last season until a broken hand ended his year -- he's a 6-2, 325-pound tackle who has played for Detroit and the Cardinals. If he's as steady as he's been, Barry Cofield has a capable backup and the DT rotation has one too many guys. Jonas Seawright and William Joseph, one of you is on notice. Or both.
Stone is primarily a special-teams guy, though he has played some safety and corner. He was with the Patriots last season.
OK, back to Sabres-Isles hockey...

Ok!! so this isn't earth shattering news these three moves!! Anthony Wright knows along with everybody else that he is not a threat to Eli. He's very fast and can create things with his legs and arm. Experienced. Stone is a GREAT special teamer.Bell is an immoveable object!!
Good signings. We need help and depth in all 3 areas. Stone helps on special teams which after last season could use some help. Wright has some starting experience that Hasselback and the hefty lefty don't. Looks like Hasselback is out.
Arthur, any word on the left tackle position? They drafted Guy Whitmer (mispelled i'm sure) with the belief he could be groomed into a LT. How do the coaches and Brass view him?
The Giants need a lot of help at a lot of positions other than quarterback, but how about challenging Eli by signing a signal-caller who could actually threaten to overtake him for the starting job? Maybe that's the kind of pressure Eli needs to develop into a leader. And if Eli's not up to the task, then at least the Giants have a serviceable backup in case Eli gets hurt or needs to be benched, which certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility considering his inconsistency. I would have went after Jeff Garcia myself, but it's too late now for that. Anthony Wright? Heck, I'd have rather gotten David Carr or even Joey Harrington. I still think David Carr will turn out to be a more-than-serviceable NFL QB.
Eli Manning has enough pressure on him right now from the NY media and being drafted #1 overall. He doesn't need a QB controversy. What the Giants needed, they got in Wright. Lets not give up on Eli just yet. Sure he has been inconsistent, but he has won games for the Giants (i.e. at Philly last year and against the Broncos at home the year before). Its not a sprint, but a marathon. He needs the weapons around him like Philip Rivers has in SD. A WR that doesn't throw his arms up after not being passed too or get "aligator" arms going over the middle would help. TE is fine, RB could be an issue. Having a Defense that got stops like old Giants Defenses would help too. Getting Garcia, Carr, or Harrington would have cost the Giants a fortune when they have much other pressing needs for starting positions.
About damn time they realize the PILZBERRY throwboy isn't fit to be a backup QB in this league. Anthony Wright is a good signing, besides now we can make good use of fatass...I mean hefty lefty by putting him on offensive or defensive line. Either way Eli has no reason to be afraid.........for now!!!
Giants will finish the year with a 5-11 record. They just haven't done enough this offseason to put them ahead of the Eagles and Cowboys.
i think the g-men need another big fast athletic receiver along with a big 320 plus 6ft5 left tackle.
