He's be the Broncos MLB, an eight-year veteran and one of the heart-and-soul guys on the Denver defense. He's also due to get $5.2 million next season and Denver is snugly up against the cap after doling out big dough to RB Travis Henry and TE Daniel Graham.
So... What would the Giants give up? Maybe a DE -- the Broncos cut Courtney Brown recently and are in need of an end. The Giants have four. Two of them, Osi Umenyiora and Mathias Kiwanuka, aren't going anywhere. Michael Strahan did go to Jerry Reese a couple weeks back to ask for more money and was turned down -- might he have requested a trade? Doubtful. Might the Giants want to trade the 35-year-old, who's coming off another major injury? Only for the right price, and a 29-year-old LB doesn't sound like the right price.
So Justin Tuck is a possibility, but the Giants might feel they need him in case one of the other guys gets hurt. Too bad he got hurt along with all of the other guys last season (isn't it amazing to think back that three of the Giants DEs were down for a combined 23 games?).
So that leaves draft picks... And Reese stated he wasn't interested in giving up first-day picks in a trade. Is Wilson only worth a fourth-rounder? Be a steal if the Giants could do that.
We'll see how this develops tomorrow, when the Texans might decide whether to keep FB Vonta Leach as well. Stay tuned... Haven't said that yet this off-season!

As a 'G' fan for 49 years I think they should package the distraction they call Shockey and pick up a possible 2nd rounder and the Bronco linebacker . Our TE doesn't deliver enough to excuse the antics on the sidelines and with the press. His refusal to spend the time in Spring workouts with his quarterback is insulting.
Shockey for their #2 and Al Wilson.
I agree with Bob about JShock, his nagging and crying all the time and he doesn't have the stats to back it up. Not to mention all the times he's been injured and banged up. But the problem is the Giants have way too many priorities to address trading a TE when they could trade someone with less value for an extra draft pick
Sorry if I struck a nerve with my last posting but the only sporting team I follow is the NY Giants and I was tiring of only Michael Eisen providing insightfull off season content.
Anyone offered in trade for Wilson should come from a position with depth and TE is not one of them. While I understand that the older fans stuck in the Huff or Bavaro era want Shockey to go, he is far and away the best receiving TE we have ever had and limited only by Coughlin's offensive schemes.
I say trade the old big mouth and woman abuser DE Strahan.
How about the fact that Jeremy Shockey is one of the hardest working players on the Giants. He gets injured quite often, but how many games does he ultimately miss? Not to mention he still puts up great numbers for the offense, even when being under-utilizied. If the Giants were able to bring in a good blocking tight end, a la Howard Cross, then they'd be able to put Shockey in better passing situations and easily get him 1,000 yards a season.
The Giants have a lot of holes ... Shockey is without question, not one of them.
It would be nice if they would take a #5 and Will Jo but that isn't happening. I'd give up possibly a 3 this yr and a 5 next yr. They can have Will Jo of they like. Does Jerry understand he can sign players and not just trade for them. I would like to see Justin Tuck come back. He is good and will get better if he remains healthy.
Why is it Shockey annoys older fans so much? He works his butt off every single play of every game. One of the reasons he's hurt so much is his willingness to put his body on the line. I guarantee if every Giant played with Shockey's heart, we'd have won a Superbowl or two in the last few years.
Old timers can't seem to deal with the fact that he's a loudmouth who doesn't think before he talks. What modern athlete isn't nowadays? Shockey's just a dumb jock redneck from Oklahoma! How do you expect him to act? I've been a Giants fan since the nightmare years of the '70's, and I can say with confidence Shockey's the best TE we've had here.
I love Bavaro. He's one of my favorite Giants of all time. But he never put up the stats Shockey does and he was pretty surly to the press back in his day. People's memories are clouded (and rightfully so) by those two Superbowl wins.
Well, lifelong Bronco fan here--not very happy that we're thinking of trading a leader and a Pro Bowler like Al, but I understand it's a biz...having said that, I think some of these posters have blue-tinted goggles on. Seriously, give up a 5-time pro bowler and a 2nd round pick for Shockey? Hardly--especially since we just spent big $$ on a tight end, and have a good young receiving option in Scheffler, to boot. A three and a five? Maybe two threes. I've read they might flip 1st round picks and throw in Tuck, but I doubt Reese would go that far.
John - I couldn't agree with you more. People seem to think by getting rid of Shockey (or Plax for that matter) will fix our problems. Don't we have enough holes on this team already? I mean, who can we use to play TE? Is there anyone else out there we can get? These guys may be stir the pot from time to time, but we need 'em! Plain and simple! I loved Bavaro as well, but those days are gone! At least we are FINALLY starting to do something on Defense. I will miss Tuck but we have plently of DE's right now.
Anyone who wants Shockey moved is an idiot. I have been following him since college and the Giants should have an entire team of individuals with the passion and skills a Shockey brings to a team. The problem is not Shockey but the terrible coach that management put in place. Just look at all the great assistants who left the Giants to become highly successful head coaches and look at what we got. It is time that management was let go starting with our new do-nothing GM. We need a new owner who will do anything to put a great product on the field and pull great minds on to the team with him or her. I for one do not want what we all put up with in the 70’s & 80’s before George Young showed up.
