We made a mistake in the paper today and the online story -- Eli did not get a new contract, he's simply maxing out the value of the initial one he signed after he was drafted.
I'm sorry, and Blauber's sorry.
In any event, this is still noteworthy. Despite the denials from the Giants, having one player with a cap number over $10-million for the next three years has to shrink the available cash to spend on free agents... Jerry Reese knew this, of course, so it's hardly a surprise. What the surprise may be to you fans out there is that the Giants were not flush with cap room when Mar. 2 rolled around, which can partly explain their inactivity.
The other part is that the FAs generally aren't that good -- witness the three-year, $12-million deal Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champ Cato June got from the Bucs. Not a lot out there, people.
Again, sorry for our mistake.

so why did reese onsny tv sports news say the giants had the cap room to be a big player for the top free agents and other possible players out there and a few days before free agency started? and he specifically mentioned guys like michael turner, thomas jones, adalius thomas, briggs, clements and other who he was very interested in? I SAW HIM SAY THIS MYSELF! Are you inferring he is a flat out liar? OR actually he is not trhe gm of the giants and CHRIS MARA IS?
C'mon. Don't blame another columnist. That's weak, even if it is true.
