Tonight's Inactives

Hot off the presses... Mild surprises are WR Sinorice Moss, who had a full week of practice but not enough to earn Tom Coughlin's confidence, and DT Jonas Seawright, who will sit to give the Giants more depth in the back seven.

Big surprise? How about LB Brandon Short. Guess Coughlin wants Gerris Wilkinson active for special teams and trusts that Carlos Emmons is healthy.

The others out tonight: QB Tim Hasselbeck, RB Derrick Ward, DB Kevin Dockery, OL Na'Shan Goddard and OT Guy Whimper.

For the Colts: DB Tim Jennings, RB DeDe Dorsey, LB Freddie Keiaho, LB Tyjuan Hagler, G Ryan Lilja, TE Ben Hartsock and DT Corey Simon.

Dear Arthur,

Not a real blogger – eh? (Sorry, but I’m with Chris on this one.) No excuses – Blauber is worthless and weak (although I did like his NFL rankings) – push him aside and take charge of the phone line, man! I can’t believe they don’t have a wireless access point for the sports writers. What kind of place are they running over there? But, seriously, if you really are too busy, I’d suggest giving the blog to someone who has the time, and sticking with what you do best – writing a daily column.

I like the fact that I get to read at least one quality article everyday in Newsday on my team - the Giants. That’s what’s important – a quality article every day. My hat’s off to you for a fine job throughout the preseason. Keep up the good work. I think you did an excellent job today (Ref. “Oh, brother, the zebras, too”) capturing all of the salient points on last nights frustrating loss.

About that:

Tiki heard the wrong call? How are they going to get it right when they are on the road next week? Sheesh! And “Hut!” called out by the defense – how low can you go? And how did they get away with it? No official could hear that? For that matter, it seemed like there were more than 3 false starts – more like thirty-three – but I’ll go with your numbers. It was a winnable game, but what irked me (and probably the coaches too) is that those types of mistakes are usually made on the road…how is Coughlin planning to overcome the crowd noise at Philly and Seattle? Maybe he should steal a page from the Colts – they didn’t seem to miss a beat last night.

One more question – the Giants didn’t blitz much – what up wit dat? The pressure by the front four on Peyton, while considerable, was short of suffocating. Any insight?

Thanks,

-Big BB (Not my real name)

PS From which slime bucket did Wallace Mathews crawl out? Giants = Pretenders? Pul-eeze!

PPS Shout out to Ed McNamara who writes the funniest column on the NFL.

I thought the pressure was actually pretty good. We seemed to be getting alot of penetration -- just couldn't end the pressure with sacks. Peyton is obviously very skilled in keeping his focus and using up all the time he can to make the best choice on where to throw. I was more disappointed in the secondary -- especially the safties who seem to be giving so much cushion that they're just not able to make a play before a catch. I don't know if this is the safties fault or if it's the defensive coordinators schemes but it haunted us last year too. I get the sense it's a scheme issue and part of the bend but don't break strategy of eliminating those long plays for scores that get behind the D. Seems like an area we need work on. We can't lose that many 3rd and long battles.
