More draft video stuff with "Big Cat" Abramson
Here's another draft-related video to chew on.
Here's another draft-related video to chew on.
Abramson and I discuss what a fine job Jerry Reese did last season with the Giants' draft and some of the challenges he faces this weekend.
If you are a friend, relative, colleague, or jeffp, I know: These videos are kinda creepy.
But Newsday did get nominated for four Eppy's, which is apparently a big deal in the Internet world. My guess is the Eppy ranks somewhere in importance between and ESPY and a gold star.
As on the previous video, the vast production staff was led by Mr. La Monica.
And if you really want to get some insight into the Giants' plans, please read Tom Rock's blog.
Here's what Adam Abramson and I did on a Wednesday afternoon in New York. There was a cast of thousands behind the scenes, so please take a moment to thank them for their efforts. Mark La Monica led the vast production team at Marseilles Restaurant in Manhattan.
It's nice to see that Abramson wears a tie to work these days.
Please read Erik Boland's blog for plenty of Jets' stuff. He was in Central Park yesterday chasing down Kellen Clemens. It was an interesting afternoon.
Ok, now this is creepy. Fun, but creepy.
Here's my long-awaited visit with Marquette basketball coach Tom Crean, who was gracious enough to allow us into the team's walkthrough yesterday before a game against St. John's at the Garden.
Many thanks to coach Crean, who will hopefully go a long, long way in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. And thanks to Katie Strang for indulging our self-indulgence with our look-a-like fascination.
As it turns out, Crean and Katie are from the same area in Michigan, so even she had a nice time chatting with Glauber ... I mean, Crean.
Some more video for you to kill time while awaiting George Mitchell's announcement that your favorite baseball players have used steroids.
Note the color of La Monica's sweater and shirt. Green-and-white.
Think he's pulling for the Jets in Foxboro?
Newsday Internet guru Mark La Monica forces me to do these videos every so often, and he picked a great day to sit down and talk about all things NFL and all things Jets-Pats. My man Tom Rock is aboard, too, and Rock actually does quite well in moderating our discussion.
The taping was held at Chrebet's in Uniondale, right across from the Jets' training complex, the place where Chrebet began his unlikely career at Hofstra and then turned into an NFL star.
La Monica works hard on putting these things together, so even if you think it's cheesy (it's not, but don't tell La Monica I said that), give him a shoutout on the Keyboard Quarterbacks and show him some love.
You can also see if La Monica lives dangerously and does another shot of Jack Daniels in the video. Or, for that matter, if Rock or I throw down a couple.
(Little known La Monica factoid (in fact, stunning La Monica factoid): Yes, the man who threw down a shot of Jack at the Coliseum graduated from Neil Best's alma mater, Cornell. The only difference is, La Monica doesn't feel the need to brag about it every other blog post.)
Just a note here: We filmed this before Thomas Jones' injury and before Kellen Clemens made things interesting with some strong preseason play. But Adam Abramson needs the face time, and Mark La Monica needs to justify his existence as Newsday.com's guru, so here goes.
... thanks for the flattering intro shot, fellas.
I'm not big on self-promotion like Neil Best, who has sprouted the biggest ego this side of Mark Cuban now that he's gone bonkers with his blog. But my bosses put this entry into my blog, so I can't rightly take it out.
Besides, they were kind enough to meet me at Jets' camp the other day to do the video.
You'll notice that I'm wearing shorts in it. I was a little self-conscious of that, since I like to dress up a bit more on TV - I'm a tie-and-jacket guy on ESPN First Take. But it was 95 degrees and muggy that day, and I guess I wanted to show you how sportswriters get to dress in training camp.
Tom Rock wore shorts that day, too, so I didn't feel too badly. Arthur Staple wears shorts, too.
I know, we've had this discussion before, but Best has taught me that blog readers like self-absorbed prattle of the blogger.
Mark La Monica, my blog boss, is making me put this video of me talking about the upcoming NFL season in the blog. I don't normally like to talk about myself, but La Monica, who will be running the company one day because he's thirtysomething and very up on technology, says this is the wave of the future. Snarky is in; humble is out.
So here you go.
Please note the young dude sitting next to me. His name is Adam Abramson, he's a college football freak, and a generally swell dude.
You'll notice I'm wearing shorts in the video, and it looks a little goofy, I admit. In fact, I'm more a tie-and-jacket type guy for television appearances on ESPN First Take. But it was 95 degrees and humid, so this is how sportswriters look in such conditions.
I believe even Neil Best wore some dorkified beige shorts when he covered the Giants in training camp. Art Staple is wears slightly more modern cargo shorts and sandals when he's blogging away in Albany. Tom Rock wears shorts, too.
NFL.com is running a series of videos for its fantasy football program this season, and they are highly entertaining.
Check out this one of Jets kicker Mike Nugent. You can then link to others on YouTube.
Oh, and in case Neil Best is reading, please note the pre-6 a.m. posting time. Wake up, Best!
