Pacman shouldn't hold his breath about reinstatement

Pacman Jones will apply for reinstatement this week, but it would be a major upset if NFL commissioner Roger Goodell decides to put him back in the league's good graces that quickly.

Jones hopes to be traded to the Cowboys, although talks have bogged down in recent days. But Goodell said at the NFL owners meetings in Palm Beach earlier this montht that he had no plans to change his timetable for any possible reinstatement. Goodell has said he will address the matter before the start of training camp. Goodell also shot down any speculation that he might rule sooner if circumstances - i.e. a trade - dictated a quick resolution.

Mawae elected president of NFLPA

Former Jets center Kevin Mawae, now with the Titans, has been elected president of the NFL Players Association, a post previously held by cornerback Troy Vincent.

Vincent has moved up to assistant executive director, and could be on a path to one day succeed Gene Upshaw as head of the players union.

Mawae's election is a good choice by the players. He is an extremely intelligent player, cares about what happens to his NFL brethren, and is respected around the league by players and executives for his honesty and candor.

Need a cornerback? How about Pacman Jones

It's pretty obvious there's no future in Tennessee for suspended cornerback Pacman Jones, who has been barred from even working out with the team until the summer. So what better time than now to put him on the market and see if someone is willing to take this talented, yet misbehaving defensive back off their hands.

Not sure what it would take to get Pacman in a trade, given that it's still uncertain when he'll be reinstated.

My guess is a ham & cheese sandwich and a side of fries will do the trick.
