Agent: Rams will DEFINITELY take Chris Long No. 2

Just spoke to Marvin Demoff, the agent for Virginia defensive end Chris Long, and I asked if he felt Long would go to Rams at No. 2, as has been speculated.

"I don't think he's going there," Demoff said. "I know he is."

The team had initially focused its attention on Glenn Dorsey of LSU, but Long emerged late in the week as the consensus choice.

The buzz is that Atlanta will take take QB Matt Ryan of Boston College, but there might be some hesitation there because the Falcons have also been highly impressed with Dorsey.

The Raiders seem intent on drafting Darren McFadden at No. 4, but you never know with Al Davis. He's liable to do anything, including trading the pick.

If McFadden is on the board when the Jets pick sixth - or higher, if they make a trade - I'm told they will definitely take the Arkansas running back.

The Rams' defensive ends had 5 1/2 sacks last year

Vernon Gholston says he can change all that. The Ohio State pass rusher will drop in on the Rams for a pre-draft visit.

Need a receiver? Try Isaac Bruce

He's available because the Rams have just released the 35-year-old receiver.

Shock? Yes, to some degree. But the Rams had asked Bruce to take a pay reduction, and he refused.

In today's NFL, that doesn't cut it.

Gone.

Scott Linehan might be on the hot seat

The Rams are 3-12 and going nowhere, and despite team management's recent hints that head coach Scott Linehan will not be fired, you have to wonder after reading Jim Thomas' piece in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about Torry Holt's sideline blowup during a blowout loss to the Steelers Thursday.

Seems it's not the first time one of the team's elite offensive players has disagreed publicly with the coach.

With a defense that has failed to see much progress this year and an offense whose star players are now questioning the direction of the team, it will certainly give the team's front-office decision-makers plenty of reason to seriously consider the immediate future and whether Linehan will be a part of it.
