Roger Goodell thinks the preseason is too long
The commissioner pulls no punches when he talks about four games (and, in some cases, five) being too many in the preseason.
He'd rather see fewer preseason games and more regular season games. He has floated the idea of adding a 17th regular season game and taking one preseason game away. And now the commish said no one should rule out 18 regular season games and two exhibitions.

I guess it's time to negotiate the new TV contract. I guess TV really wants the 18 games and the players really want the 2 exhibitions, which will help the veterans job security, I suppose. While we are at it I suppose with jobs secure we can cut the draft down to 4 rounds as well.
Its not coming right now, but in the future the NFL will be playing 18 regular season games. The NFL will most likely 2 preseason games to make it happen.
