Here's the column I wrote for the newspaper when it was still between the Jets and Bucs for acquiring Favre's services.
I'm sure a large segment of Jets' fans is ecstatic over the trade, although I'm still skeptical that a 38-year-old Favre playing with a new team will not be a magic bullet.
As always, I am certainly open to being proven wrong. Welcome to New York, Mr. Favre.

I agree with you. Very skeptical.
I am as well, although he will be highly motivated to show GB what they tossed in the trash bin. The price was right, if he reverts to 39yo form the Jets are out a 4 (not a 1, Mitch Albom.) The Jets were not contending this season with either incoming QB, so this does make sense. Once again the Chad left hanging.
It doesn't matter anyway! Any long time Jet- Titan fan (since '65) knows the problem... We ALL are visitors in another team's stadium and once they put on that green jersey something comes over them and well you know the history it would be too painful to rehash it...(Possibility of Blair Thomas Disease)?Any way then won their Superbowl on my sixteenth birthday 1/12/69 and next year I''ll be 56... (By the way..Chad...Thanks...
excellent post by craig...but...
We Jet fans know better than to be optimistic.
Does Mr Johnson think that loyal fans will now gladly fork over 20 to 25K for the PSLs?
I was never a real big Chad guy, but now I feel bad for him.
Much rather have Garcia
SOJ
Does anyone know how many 39yr. old QB's have won Super Bowls?
Is is too early to get this question rolling?
We are nearly 12 hours into the latest chapter of the "Let's Face It, Brett Favre Just Loves The Color Green Saga"......
So....
Does Brett go into the Hall of Fame as a Jet?
Or a Packer?
I'm surprised I expected the Jets fans to be bragging about how it's their year, just like when Parcells got Testaverde and oops he got hurt on the first series of the season.
Unfortunately for the Jets, Favre may make them a playoff team. This isn't the weak NFC he's coming to, it's the AFC, home of the league's two best teams in NE and Indianapolis. Not to mention Pittsburgh and San Diego. Getting Favre makes the Jets a contender for a playoff position, and if I read the trade right, losers of next year's 2nd round draft choice, which they still need.
If anyone in the jets organization thinks this team is now a Super Bowl--oops-Big Game-- contender, they should be fired, they're incompetent.
Actually, I think older QBs get to the superbowl better than they should, distribution-wise.
Oldest was Elway at 38.
