Holy Boland! Even Sam Rutigliano rips the Brownies

The former head coach of Boland's Beloved Browns (I guess we'll now go with BBB when we talk about the Cleveland squad) was all over the team during a humiliating preseason performance against the Giants on Monday night. And it wasn't about those putrid brown pants they wore, either.

As the starters were getting pummeled 30-3 in the first half, Rutigliano, who does color commentary on radio, said the players looked as if they were trying to get everyone fired.

Sudden Sam Rutigliano.

Forever etched in Cleveland Brown history thanks to the play call "Red Right 88".
Old enough to remember that Boland?
Ranks right behind "The Drive" in frustrating and depressing times for Browns fans.

Back when I was Islander216, Coach Sam, with guys like Brian Sipe and Dave Logan (The Kardiac Kids) gave Browns fans a brief glimmer of grandeur only to cruelly and inexplicably tear it away in the waning seconds of a playoff game.
Sam was just another in a long line of NY sports figures (Dimaggio, Mantle, Huff, Jeter etc) tearing out the hearts of all Cleveland fans.

And let's face it, getting pushed all over the field by the Giants in a preseason game is nothing compared to getting pushed all over the field by Elway's Broncos in the closing seconds of an AFC Championship Game.

It definitely was the putrid brown pants.

Yes, Islander505, I remember Red Right 88, though if I tell you how old I was at the time, it will make Glauber feel really old. Mike Davis picked off Sipe's intended pass for Ozzie Newsome. Just remember, veteran kicker Don Cockroft missed an extra point and two field goals that day so him hitting there at the was far from certain. I didn't think the play call was the worst, it was more that Sipe didn't follow Rutigliano's advice on the play: "If [Dave] Logan's not open, throw it in Lake Erie." Instead he went to Mike Davis. As Neil Best would say, sigh.

AAaaaaawwwwwwwwww :-) :-) :-)

Is everyone still picking the Brownies to win their division? :-)
