When Rock came out with his top 10 picks several weeks before the draft, he gave the Patriots Tennessee linebacker Jerod Mayo at No. 7.
To which we responded: What are you smokin'?
As it turns out, Rock was a genius. The Patriots traded down from seven to 10 and took the outside linebacker, who figures to be a big hit in Bill Belichick's 3-4 defense. The Jets hope Vernon Gholston will pay similar dividends in their own 3-4 alignment.
We'd heard a couple days before the draft that Mayo had shot up the board, but few expected him to land in the top 10.
Perhaps Rock has a stock tip or two he'd like to share. He knows how to reach me.
In the meantime, Mayo is about to become a millionaire ... and perhaps a Super Bowl champion in the not too distant future.
