The Chiefs are stockpiling picks

They got Minnesota's first overall choice and two third-rounders in agreeing to trade defensive end Jared Allen last night.
It's a huge move for Kansas City, which now has two picks in the top 20 (they've also got the fifth overall). And it gives them plenty of flexibility to address multiple positions - they need offensive linemen and cornerbacks, and might take a shot at BC quarterback Matt Ryan at No. 5.

bg,excellent move by the chefs(i hate when chris berman says that,oh that is for best) many holes to fill, you can go 5-11 with allen or without him plus the cost factor involved.this is the right way to build, but they have to make the picks count.another plus is that you do not have to worry about a 3rd strike for allen.

I know he's good and all, but is Jared Allen going to make that much of a improvement to the Vikings defense?

Allen also better be careful of Minny police. They tend to find Viking players in fancy cars. They have had a history of arrest involving vehicles there. He should try to stay low during the season while out in public.

Bob,

$31 million GUARANTEED for a guy once-suspended for alcohol abuse?

Justin Tuck got a new contract with $16 million guaranteed.

Does this mean that Jared Allen is about twice as good as Justin Tuck? (Really, a rhetorical question!).

Regards

By all indications, Allen is dealing well with his alcohol problems. But as anyone familiar with the issue knows, bad things can happen. Minnesota is a franchise that has had a history of unfortunate moments in this regard.

Mel:

Yes, that is a ton of money, especially compared to Tuck's deal. Allen is a terrific talent, though, and he will have an immediate impact.
