The agents for Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long may be in preliminary talks with the Dolphins, who own the first overall pick and are thus allowed to reach a contract agreement with the top choice before draft day (April 26).
This doesn't mean the Dolphins will wind up taking Long, and it could very well be a negotiating tactic aimed at some other player. In fact, the Dolphins are widely believed to be more interested in Virginia defensive end Chris Long. And if they really have their sights set on him, negotiating with Jake Long will theoretically put pressure on Chris Long to strike a deal.
I know, it's all very silly, but we're still two weeks before the draft, and there's got to be something to talk about.
