When Michael Strahan does retire, he won't cry

All right, I'll give up some of the interview, but not all of it. Remember, we're still trying to make money as a newspaper, and the paper itself pays the majority of the bills these days. nicole.jpg

When Strahan does retire, whether it's this year, next year or beyond, he insists won't cry. Strahan was in Vail, Colorado on a promotional trip when Brett Favre tearfully explained his reasons for retirement.

"I'm sitting there watching it and [girlfriend] Nicole looks at me and says, 'If you do retire, just don't cry, because if you do, they will run it over and over.' Every time we turned on the tv, [Favre] is there crying. When I retire, I won't cry. I've had a great career. I'm happy. I'm satisfied. What is there to cry about? Will I miss football? Yes. But at the same time, I've played enough football for myself and a lot of people. If I don't play any more, part of me will be sad, but another part of me will be excited, because there's life after football."

(PS: I took the liberty of posting this picture of Strahan and his attractive girlfriend, partly to appease any disgruntled readers of Best's blog, which included a disturbing picture for some readers, particularly Islander505.)

BG-

OK, so Michael Strahan has a good attitude towards that part of his eventual retirement.

I'd still like to hear more now, here are a few arguments for you:

1) I am a subscriber, and have been reading the paper anytime I lived in the NY area since I was a kid, including pre-blog and pre-internet days.

2) I suspect many of those who read your blog also subscribe to Newsday.

3) I think all your newspaper articles are available online (I personally read them in the paper).

4) And as for advertisers, I think Hilton Hotels and Wamu, who currently are showing to me as advertisers on this page of your blog, wouldn't mind you breaking news here and gaining a larger following.

So, did I get anywhere, or will I have to be patient and wait until delivery tommorrow morning?

LTmeansLawrenceTaylor:

You have cracked the code. The combination of guilt and logic always makes me buckle.

I'll give you the Strahan stuff as soon as I'm able. In the meantime, you can bask in the glow of the David Carr signing.

That's Eddie Murphy's ex wife!!

Bob:

Just read your story on Strahan...

Based on his comments, it looks like he's leaning (pardon the pun) toward retirement. It will be sad to see, as he is the final bridge from the LT era to now. I can't say I always liked him (his contract squablle a few years ago is but one example), but over the past few years I have come to see and appreciate how his presence has had an effect on the younger players, the team's play in general, and finally, my feelings for him and for all he has accomplished.

If it is a farewell, I do look forward to traveling to Canton five summers from now to see his induction.

Tom:

Canton a very neat place for a player like Strahan to put an exclamation point in his career. I still leave open the possibility he plays, but I think he's more serious about retirement than ever before.
