Sammy Knight for Gibril Wilson?

The Giants are expected to visit today or tomorrow with 32-year-old free agent safety Sammy Knight, although it's uncertain whether the team will agree to terms.

Knight visited with the Broncos but left without a contract.

The Giants are obviously in the market for a safety after Gibril Wilson signed a megabucks deal with the Raiders, although Knight would be seen as a temporary fix given his age. But he still is an intriguing option, and has the kind of veteran savvy the Giants could use. There's also a possibility the Giants will be in the mix for Patriots free agent safety Eugene Wilson, although his pricetag might be a bit higher than what the Giants are looking at.

Stay tuned on this one. It's possibly an example of how the Giants can use their clout as defending Super Bowl champs to attract lower-level free agents, just as the Patriots have done over the last several years.

The Giants still have some options at safety; James Butler is a restricted free agent and is expected to return, and Michael Johnson, a seventh-round pick who saw some playing time last year, is expected to be in the mix.
