Moss or Walker to the Giants? Don't hold your breath
There's been plenty of speculation about the Giants' potential interest in receivers Randy Moss (Patriots) and Javon Walker (Broncos). My advice to Giants' fans: Don't get your hopes up.
A league source familiar with the team's plans said neither receiver is on the team's radar. Moss is too expensive and too much of a potential headache - not to mention too much like Plaxico Burress in terms of what his role would be. And Walker has issues with a knee injury that led to his ouster in Denver.
The Giants are also poking around with 32-year-old veteran safety Sammy Knight, but I'm told that if he's signed, it will not be to a long-term deal. The team would like it to be a one-year contract, and even if it's a multi-year deal, it wouldn't expose the team to a lot of guaranteed money.
If the season were to start to tomorrow, James Butler and second-year man Michael Johnson would be the Giants' starting safeties.
And for those of you worried about the loss of defensive starters Gibril Wilson, Reggie Torbor, and Kawika Mitchell, keep this in mind: The Giants are expected to get solid compensatory picks in the 2009 draft as a result of them signing elsewhere. It could be as high as a third-round pick for Wilson and fifth or sixth rounders for Mitchell and Torbor.
(UPDATE: Knight's visit is scheduled for Monday. The team is expected to give him a physical, but is not expected to give him a workout.)

Sweet...I never knew about the compensatory picks!
Hey, hey, I forgot about the compensatory picks. Is that based on their performance with their new club? Or is it based on the value of the contracts with their new club? Perhaps it is based on something entirely different? Someone provide me with enlightenment.
