Don't blink. Free agency's almost over

The first wave of elite players is nearly gone. After a dizzying bunch of signings on Day 1, Day 2 features the following moves:

* Guard Alan Faneca (Steelers) is a Jet.

* Wide receiver Bernard Berrian (Bears) is a Viking.

* Wide receiver Donte Stallworth (Patriots) is a Brown.

* Cornerback Jacques Reeves (Cowboys) is a Texan.

* Jags defensive tackle Marcus Stroud has been traded to the Bills for third- and fifth-round picks.

* Cornerback Drayton Florence (Chargers) is a Jaguar.

* Defensive end Chris Clemons (Raiders) is an Eagle.

* Safety Erik Coleman (Jets) is a Falcon.

* Defensive end Justin Smith (Bengals) is a 49er.

* And it looks as if linebacker Calvin Pace (Cardinals) is about to be a Dolphin.

About the only big-name players left are receiver Randy Moss (Patriots) and linebacker Lance Briggs (Bears).

(UPDATE: Now the only intrigue left surrounds Moss, because Briggs agreed to a six-year, $36 million deal to stay with the Bears. Yes, that's the Bears team he once proclaimed he'd never play for again. "I've played my last snap for them," he said during acrimonious contract negotiations last year. "I'll never play another down for Chicago again."

now that day 2 of free agency is coming to an end, how about treating the family to a little Wa-Wa?

Bob,

So did you congratulate Neil Best for his alma mater reaching the NCAA Tournament? I know I did.

KF:

Oh, my.

I didn't congratulate him, but I did nearly hurl when I read your post.
