Why the Giants might win it all again next year

Wrote about Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's decision to walk away from the Redskins' head coaching opportunity and stick with the Giants. It's just the latest piece of good news for a Giants team that is not only still basking in the glow of one of the most unexpected Super Bowl victories in history, but can now look forward to a future that might include even more championships. Or at least the realistic possibility of them. I detail the reasons why.

Jim Zorn?

What's up with Jim Fassel ?

Never liked Fassel, but now I do feel for him. Next year he will have to battle his former BFF for a re tread hire. Given that most owners are dopes, and the other guy has a ring, I think Gentle Jim loses again. That would be a shame, as Fassel out coaches Billick by a mile. Be that as it may, woe be any team staking its fortune to either.

"ranking right up there in importance with their first Super Bowl title after the 1986 season. That team might have been a touch more dominant overall, but it's certainly debatable."

That team was vastly superior. The 86 Giants team was solid through out the roster. I always thought this team was never considered one of the better Super Bowl teams is because it came right after the 85 Bears.

Van Pelt:

I covered that '86 team, and it was truly a spectacular team. There was probably more defensive talent overall, and I agree about the '85 Bears factor. But it's tough to find anything wrong with this year's team, especially after they beat an 18-0 opponent. I think these guys could have beaten just about anyone on this night, and they would certainly have given the '86 team a run.

Only one way to find out about last year's team and the 86 team. We'll have to play Madden 2009 and play both of those teams against each other about 100 times to see who wins.

Then again, ESPN tried that with the Pats and Giants, and we all know who won that game.
