That would be former White Plains (NY) High star Art Monk, who went on to star for the Redskins.
Monk was snubbed for several years by Hall of Fame voters, who ostensibly considered him an above average possession receiver. But with former Redskins cornerback Darrell Green the only lock to make it this year - and he did - it gave Monk a well-deserved chance to get in.
Congratulations. My younger brother Mickey will be very happy with this news.
The other inductees: DE Fred Dean, DB Emmitt Thomas, LB Andre Tippett and T Gary Zimmerman. WR Cris Carter did not make it. Nor did former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

What about legendary punter Ray Guy...who played on 3 Super Bowl Champions...never had a punt returned for a touchdown and was named to the NFL's 75th Anniversary team...the Hall of Fame voters deserve a swift "kick."
It's about time.
I may be biased because I got to watch Art Monk in high school, then followed his career through Syracuse and into the NFL.
He was just so far and away the best athlete any of us ever saw...
To call him an above average possession guy was a bad rap. He had numbers. He had championships. He did it for a long time.
His problem with the HOF voters must have been that he was a quiet well-mannered, family, man...not an out-of-control, publicity-seeking, mental patient that a disproportionate amount of these "superstar" wide receivers seem to be.
Absolutely great news. Art was one of the greatest athletes I ever saw. Besides football he took up the hurldes his senior year in high school and beat just about everyone in the country (except Renaldo Nehemia). He was a fantastic reciever, but more important had tremendous character. In a world where wide recievers are out of control, Art is who I want my own kids to be like. He was a huge part of the Redskins winning ways and noone could be more deserving.
From what I remember, he was a pretty good street hockey player also.
