It's NKR's favorite time of year!!!

The Super Bowl is over. So's the Pro Bowl.

Free agency's still a couple weeks away.wesminster.jpg

The draft isn't for another couple months.

Which means ... it's time for the Westminster Dog Show at Madison Square Garden!

Ordinarily, we would treat this event as we have as far back as we can remember: by ignoring it. But one of our most loyal readers happens to be a dog-show fanatic, and it might even be her dream to one day compete at this prestigious event. In fact, perhaps she already has.

She will no doubt inform us once she sees this post in honor of her.

Enjoy, NKR!

And for those football fans out there who couldn't give a hoot about this event (we're right there with you, but don't tell NKR), I found an article in which the show's director compares some breeds of dogs to today's football stars. Here it is.

Tom Brady is likened to a border collie: Smartest dog, leads (herds) his flock up and down the field, athletic and intensely focused on the job at hand.

Plaxico Burress is a greyhound: Narrow body, big chest, sleek, powerful, athletic and fast.

Actually Westminster is more interesting than the Pro Bowl.

I always watch it since I saw "Best In Show"

And Eli is a good ol' redbone Hound...in season for those coons.

Yes, I've already shown there! I think about a half dozen times. I could tell you some real juicy stuff about some of the handlers there that would make "Best in Show" look like a children's cartoon. And I've had my hands all over Vikki (the toy poodle that won the toy group) when I was judging at a show in Ballston Spa. She was lovely and went on to win her 75th Best in Show that day. Very nice beagle that won last night. I think BG would make a great beagle.
