Plaxico Burress all but guaranteed a Giants' win by predicting a 23-17 score on Sunday, and he didn't back off from his boast during Media Day yesterday.
We've already received a couple of e-mails from angry Giants fans questioning why we would dare write anything critical of Burress, or any other Giants players, for that matter. One reader suggested it sounded like we were writing for a Boston paper, and not one of the Giants' "hometown" papers
Whoa.
Last I checked, Sam Zell was signing my checks, not John Mara. So pardon the criticism.
Then again, Mr. Mara himself wasn't too happy with Burress "chirping" this week, so we'll see where it goes from here.
On the way to the Giants' presser in Chandler, Ariz., so we'll see how it's going there.

What really bugs me is that reporters (not from Newsday of course) asked him if he's ready to make history? He says yes and all of a sudden it's a "guarantee". Please. A) don't ask trap questions and B) if you do, don't complain that you get canned cliche answers. This is why!!
Peter, I understand what you're saying, but why is it only morons like Plax are the ones who get caught up in these things?
Plax needs his moment. But as a Steelers fan, I'll always view him in the same light as other "all show, no go, atheletes"
I don't remember hearing much from Sweetness, from Montana, from Stallworth, from Unitas. No those guys didn;t need t-shirts that said "talk is cheap, shut up and play" They LIVED it.
My problem is with media members who ask these questions and then bash a player for not giving the same boring cliche. Like why ask a question if you want the standard answer? I would love a Freddie Mitchell or the Steeler who claimed they were going to beat the Pats. Or do you really want the, "I think the Pats are a great team, maybe the best team in the history of football. But they we respect them, we feel we can compete with them and hopefully the ball will bounce our way and (insert religious hero) will look down upon us and we'll be able to pull one out."
I just read your article in todays paper btw. Bob, I really cant believe you. You wrote, will it mean the difference between winning and losing? Maybe. Maybe not.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? I can just see it now.
Patriots: 48
Gaints: 3
Terry Bradshaw: Tom congratulations. You went 19-0. You threw for 50 TD's and set the world on fire. How do you feel?
Tom Brady: Well Terry I have to admit, when the Giants were up 3-0 we all had our heads down and thought it was over. I mean we really weren't playing for anything important. Who cares about the Super Bowl? Who cares about the perfect season? Who cares about tying the record for most Super Bowls won by a Quarterback? None of that means anything to me. But then I remembered. During media day Plaxico Burress had the audacity to think his team was going to win! So I told the guys about that. I actually had to bring the portable bulliten board from the locker room, thats why Sorgi played the 2nd series for me.
Bradshaw: Isn't Sorgi on the Colts?
Brady: Huh? I don't know. It doesn't matter. The point is we would have lost but then we decided to try our hardest because of what Plaxico said.
Bradshaw: Ummmmm....ok. Thanks Tom.
