Breaking news: Best, La Monica win top blogging honors

It is a fine day for Cornell, as two of its most talented graduates - our own Neil Best and Mark La Monica have been feted by the Newsday higher-ups as co-winners of the Blogger of the Year award. cornell.jpg

And the runnerup - Adam Abramson of Campus Confidential fame. Virginia Tech rules!

Congrats to all three on a job well done. They have become the inspiration for our small corner of the blogosphere, and we hope one day to join in their honors. One day.

And hats off to Newsday veteran John Jeansonne, one of the longtime greats of our business, for his victory in the Bob Waters Sports Writing Award. John has been one of the stalwarts in our section for decades, and his insightful writing about a variety of topics has become one of our very special treasures.

Also congrats to runnersup Barbara Barker and Jim Baumbach.

And, finally, a shoutout to colleague Shaun Powell for winning in the Distinguished Columns category. Well earned.

Far above Cayuga's waters...

They gave a runner up award to Adam? I guess thats because college football is always a 'runner-up' in this city :-)

You're still tops in my book Adam, just don't tell Bob :-)

what was thr winning trophy shaped like?

i wanted a bronze bust of Glauber, but i think the trophy is just a handshake and a "job well done."

And a nice, fat check!

fat check, hm.

please someone tell mr. staple to join the sphere.did he sprain his fingers?

I'll mention Glauber as my inspiration when I accept the award.

Best is in the house! Welcome aboard, Neil. We're a fan friendly site here.
