Former Giants QB Phil Simms, now the CBS commentator extraordinaire, has some interesting reads on the Jets' 1-8 season:
On Kellen Clemens:
"I’m curious to see the Jets, even though they are 1-8. I want to watch Kellen Clemens – just get to meet him, know him, and hear what everybody has to say about him."
On the difference between last year and this year:
"I don’t know if there is a whole lot of difference ... This year they just can’t win the close games. Anytime a team loses close games like they have, don’t look too deep. Don’t look for the mythical answer. It’s just not there. And it’s a fact – it doesn’t fall your way all the time. What I have learned is that they were a team that could have gone either way last year and found a way to make it go in their favor. This year they have been that same team but can’t find a way to catch teams by surprise or make that one play that is the difference in winning games. That is how close it is in the NFL for 20 teams. The Jets are one of those 20 and have been unfortunate so far this year."
On the Steelers, the Jets' opponents on Sunday:
"For the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ben Roethlisberger is playing extremely well. He’s got talent. He’s got size. He’s now getting maturity. Emotionally, in everything else that goes into having success in the league, the Steelers are kind of getting it this year. A coaching change changed the atmosphere and the players have reacted well to it so far. It is early, but the thinking is that the offense is a little freer with Bruce Arians as the offensive coordinator. Again the quarterback, and the whole football team, has reacted well to that. Bill Cowher did not leave the cupboard bare, that’s for sure. They’ve got talent. They’ve got speed. They’re tough. Of course, if you play for the Pittsburgh Steelers you better be tough. It’s all going to show. You hear these phrases all the time – ‘no respect,’ ‘flying under the radar.’ There is no question the Steelers are flying under the radar. I’m curious to see how they play and react to the spotlight as the year goes on. And to see if they continue to stay in that top group of teams and get people to start asking, ‘Hey, can the Steelers challenge? Do you think they have a chance?’ Right now, I’d say yes. They are a top echelon team and we’ll find out more about it."

Phil is right..
The Jets are a few plays away from respectability.
But as your boy Parcells says ..."it is what it is"
a 1 and 8 team is a 1 and 8 team.
There is no need to call Brandon Jacobs "ms. Jacobs"
I think there was a Brandon Jacobs in my confirmation class at Temple Beth Shalom
This weekend is shaping up to be a good one:
It looks like I will be selling my Jets-Steelers tix
The Jets are gonna win...
Glauber's gonna eat a notebook...
Hook,
Let's bet your tickets on the outcome.
I'll take them to see the game, if the Jets win, I'll pay you 2x face, if the Steelers win, I get them for free... :-)
Glad to see Phil "get's" the Steelers, Are you ready to board this train BG? It's getting ready to pull out of the station!
BtW, Ms. Jacobs, better wear your Sunday best this week, you have Mr. Polamalu who is quick enough to catch you from behind on one of those east-west runs of yours.
Hey Pink and Gold
let's calm down a little.
Bob is an objective journalist...he does not "board the train"...
he carefully studies the pertinent information and disseminates it to us as he sees fit...
His motivations are different from yours and mine...
we are fans
he is looking to punch up a couple of 700 word ham and egg stories, collect a paycheck, get on TV, mess with Neil Best and get home to the family.
(although I hear he was recently asking at Staples if they had those little writer notebooks in a mango salsa flavor)
Thanks for the offer...already sold the tix...
apparently, a lot of Steeler fans are looking for tickets.
Hook,
Sold those tickets in only 26 minutes huh? LMAO.
Didn't think you'd back up your words by taking me up on my offer.
As for Bob, oh he's objective, that's why he's offering to eat his notebook if the Jets beat the Steelers at home on Sunday. :-) :-)
Mean Joe
Actually, I had the tix on eBay and the auction just ended...
I had them on for one day.
A Steeler fan bought two tix and a parking pass...
paid a lot too...
oh well...
Bob wrote the notebook line for one reason....
to suck up to you Steeler fans...
Some images to think about....
Sunday..4th quarter...close game...Jets up by 3....Bob in the press box wondering if he could actually eat a notebook...maybe put it in a blender with some chocolate milk and wheat germ...might make a cute segment on ESPN2
April 2008...Some Modell's in New Jersey...Brandon Jacobs making an appearance...a trembling Black N Gold waits on line for a handshake and an autograph...he nervously looks up at a gargantuan man in incredible shape...asks for an autograph for his "son" and says that even though he grew up a Steeler fan, he always had a lot of respect for Jacobs because of his tough "Rocky Bleier" attitude....shakes his hand and says "thank you very much mister Jacobs"
Go Jets
Mr. Slide,
The whole "eat my notebook" scenario is hilarious.
All Black n Gold has to do is approach the autograph table from the side and Jacobs will be heading for the storage room in a heartbeat yelling, "they're coming after my legs, man! They're coming after my legs!"
When a Jets' fan deserves being sucked up to, you can bet Bob will be there for you. Just make sure to keep reading...for a loooong looong time.
Hook.
Rocky Bleier and and Brandon Jacobs in the same breath?
Have you been hanging out with Ricky Williams again?
Let's see, Bleier, Purple Heart - Check, Bronze Star - Check, Super Bowl Championship - Check, Check, Check, Check.
Brandon Jacobs? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
