Being a quasi public figure leads to occasional criticism from readers - which, actually, is a good thing, because at least people bother to read what you write - and we had a little dose this morning.
Our favorite Giants' fan website - BigBlueInteractive.com - has a feature called "corner forum" where readers/fans weigh in on any topic, be it football or anything else pertaining to human existence. We got smacked around a little today, although we'll plead innocence on this one.
A BBI reader accuses us of "serial incompetence" by suggesting that we withhold judgment on the 5-2 Giants until we see more of what they have to offer in the second half of the season, when they start playing some better teams. I wrote that the Giants were good ... very good ... but not yet "scary good."
Evidently, the reader took issue with our reference to some fleeting thoughts of the Bears' 1985 defense when we watched Big Blue swarm all over the Falcons the previous week. I took pains to point out that I did not think this year's defense was in a class with that Bears' defense, which I consider the greatest single-season defense in NFL history. Thus, I don't find it contradictory to suggest that the schemes of this year's defense remind me of that '85 Bears pass rush, while at the same time pointing out that we still need to see more from the '07 Giants to believe that they're Super Bowl worthy.
Anyway, enough explanatory gobbledy-gook. If people want to rip away, go ahead.
Just remember this, though. The Giants are 5-0 this season when I attend games and shake general manager Jerry Reese's hand before kickoff. If you say nasty things about me, then perhaps I will threaten to withhold said handshake in future games.
:)
Ok, no more self-absorbed nonsense. Off to the Jets to clean up the mess at Weeb Ewbank Hall.

P.S. You got the self absorbed part correct.

Wow.
