We get plenty of freebie books delivered to the house, most of them related in some way to NFL teams. But the one that showed up on our doorstep yesterday was a bit of a surprise.
We opened the package to find a John Grisham novel called "Playing For Pizza."
Yes, the greatest author of legal suspense novels is now dabbling with the NFL. Or at least his main character, Rick Dockery, has a connection to pro football.
Playing for the Cleveland Browns in a fictional AFC Championship Game against Denver, Dockery chokes away a 17-point lead and is promptly swept out of the NFL. He decides to play for the Panthers of Parma, Italy.
Rick has never been to Italy, doesn't speak or understand a word of Italian, and is reluctant to revive his career in a country known more for soccer, fine wine and classic opera.
We'll definitely read this one, having been smitten by Grisham's work for years.
