Hey, everyone, remember the most controversial player in the NFL? Some guy named Terrell Owens?
Well, T.O. hasn't made much news these days, what with all the controversy surrounding Michael Vick, Pacman Jones, Tank Johnson and any other misbehaving sort who finds himself in commissioner Roger Goodell's dog house. (Ok, considering the seriousness of the charges against Vick, we'll call it Goodell's timeout chair.)
But Owens is finally in the news now that a sore hamstring is acting up. Owens, who has had a history of hamstring and groin problems over the years, has sat out the last couple days of practice. And while the Cowboys aren't pushing the panic button just yet - in fact, Jerry Jones says Owens' problem stems from the fact that he's working too hard - the situation at least bears watching.
Owens is one of the most finely tuned athletes of our time, with incredible muscle structure that needs to be operating a full capacity to ward off injury. So any time he tweaks a hammy or a groin, it's cause for concern. And with Terry Glenn sitting out the next couple weeks after having a cyst removed from behind his knee, the Cowboys' receiver situation is a bit more tenuous than it was just a few days ago.
Interesting, too, that not long after Owens tweaked his hamstring, another controversial receiver who wears No. 81 did the same thing. Randy Moss is now day-to-day with the Patriots. A position that seemed so well stocked coming into the season is now getting a bit thin. Other Pats receivers nursing injuries: Donte Stallworth, Troy Brown and Chad Jackson.
