Got this one from University of Albany sports information director Brian DePasquale up at Giants camp the other day. Brian tipped me off to a kid who was a walk-on at Albany named Rashad Barksdale. Played corner, returned some kicks, and was clearly a talented player.
Brian mentioned that pro scouts who looked at the team didn't have him on their list because he made the team as a walk-on, but they kept noticing him while watching games. The Eagles took a particular interest and invested a sixth-round pick in last April's draft.
Barksdale is making good so far. In the preseason opener against the Ravens, he had 5 tackles and 1 pass defensed. Still a long way to go, but the kid might go from walk-on at the place the Giants train to the Eagles' opening day roster.
