Great to see LaVar Arrington at Giants Stadium last night. The former Giants linebacker made a return visit to see his ex-teammates before their preseason opener against the Panthers, and he was mobbed in the tunnel before the game.
How popular was Arrington in the Giants' locker room? Consider that Tom Coughlin, rarely the touch-feely sort, gave Arrington a huge hug when the head coach spotted him just after pre-game warmups.
Arrington is on the mend from a nasty motorcycle accident in May in Prince George's County, Maryland. He's still recovering from a broken right wrist, and he isn't walking all that quickly. But at least he's walking.
Looks like he'll never play football again, but his outlook seems great. Can't recall a more hard-luck player in quite some time. Knee problems. Played for half a dozen different defensive coordinators with the Redskins. Then blew out his Achilles last season after just starting to show the Giants what kind of impact he might have.
Arrington is one of the nicest human beings you'd ever want to meet. Always a smile. Always a thoughtful comment.
We wish him the best.
