Longoria placed on disabled list

BY ADAM RONIS

The Rays placed third baseman Evan Longoria on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right wrist. He was hit by a pitch on Thursday. The move was made retroactive to August 8. Longoria is hitting .278 with 22 home runs, 71 RBIs and seven stolen bases in 381 at-bats. Willy Aybar should see most of the time at third base.

Hey Adam, what are your thoughts on Ubaldo Jiménez tomorrow at home against the Dbacks?

JD,

Jimenez has been excellent for almost two months now. His last start was one of the few exceptions. He was due for a bad one, but allowing six runs and six walks in five innings against one of the weaker offenses, the Nationals, is a little concerning. But he has been excellent at home this season with a 3.10 ERA and just five homers in 78 1/3 innings. He has allowed one run or less in 6 of his last 10 starts. The one concern is the high amount of walks he issues. I'd probably start him. He has yet to face Arizona this season and has allowed just 4 hits in 13 career innings against them.

Adam, is Chad Tracy worth holding onto now that Dunn is w/the D-Backs? There are some other things I could do with his roster spot and I'm concerned about his value now and long term. Everything I'm reading seems to point to him losing at bats. I need someone to replace Longoria's production besides my prospect, Andy LaRoche, but if he starts heating up I may take a shot on extra saves (Kunz, Gonzalez). None of this applies, though, if Tracy is worth keeping. BTW it's a 20 team keeper, everyone stays. Thanks for all the help.

I don't think Tracy is worth keeping. His playing time is likely to get slashed and I'm sure there is a better option out there.

Adam, I ended up making the decision to pick up Guthrie instead on Jimemez (glad I didn't start Ubaldo in hindsight). Do you like Guthrie tomorrow @ CLE?

JD,

Good job reading my skepticism. Guthrie has been real good, but doesn't have the wins to show for it. He has pitched well on the road, too. I'd start him.

Loving Guthrie right now. Good call.

Dare I start Brian Moehler tomorrow against SF? He's been pretty good lately despite the lack of Ks.

JD,

He's been surprisingly good despite the low amount of Ks. The matchup against the Giants looks ideal, but I don't trust him. He could give up six runs and ruin your day. I'd stay away.
