Ramirez traded to Dodgers in three-way deal

BY ADAM RONIS

It has been a great week for the Yankees. They made deals to solidify the lineup with a righthanded bat, a setup man and a catcher and now one of the best hitters in baseball has left their rival. After all the specualtion, Manny Ramirez was finally traded by the Red Sox to the Dodgers as part of a three-way deal that will send Jason Bay to the Red Sox. The Pirates got third baseman Andy LaRoche, righthander Brandon Morris, pitcher Craig Hansen and outfielder Brandon Moss.

Hey Adam, a few things:
1 - great chat yesterday.
2 - four or five weeks ago, you advised against dropping Fuentes for Buchholz, despite the trade rumors. Great Call. Glad I followed that advice.
3 - any reason to worry about Lowe tonight against ARI?

JD,

Thanks. I'm starting Lowe in a head-to-head playoff matchup tonight, so he better be good. I'm not too worried. He's been good lately.

And I will be doing fantasy football, so look out for that soon.

The next chat is Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Adam

I'm first in saves in my league but lost Rauch as a closer when he went to Arizona. What are the chances either Farnsworth or Hansen become closers for their new teams and are they worth picking up?

I think both have a chance. I'd lean towards Farnsworth having a better chance at this point. He's pitched better than any of the options in Detroit right now. Rodney has never excelled when given the opportunity to close and Zumaya has had problems with his control and injuries. Rodney has the job for now, but I could see Farnsworth taking over.

Hansen could get it down the road. He hasn't lived up to his first-round draft potential because of poor control. If I were the Pirates, I'd let him close to see how he handles the job, but I don't think they will immediately.
