Phillies get Blanton
BY ADAM RONIS
The A's traded Joe Blanton to the Phillies for minor league second baseman Adrian Cardenas, lefthander Josh Outman and outfielder Matthew Spencer.
He is 5-12 with a 4.96 ERA and 62/35 K/BB ratio in 127 innings. Blanton had a 3.92 ERA on May 25 and was receiving no run support. Since then, he has pitched poorly, althought he does have three starts in that span where he went at least seven innings and allowed two earned runs or less. He also has four starts where he allowed at least six earned runs. He goes to a worse ballpark for pitchers, but he can go seven innings and should get more wins with the Phillies. He went 14-10 with a 3.95 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. He should be picked up in NL-only leagues and considered in deep mixed leagues.
Gio Gonzalez should be called up to take Blanton's spot and he should be added in AL-only leagues.
