Dump Dempster

BY ADAM RONIS

I'm not overreacting to his performance today. If you have read my blogs consistently, I haven't been a believer in Ryan Dempster this season. He has been very lucky so far. Coming into today, his BABIP was .238. His groundball rate was .526. Dempster went 2 1/3 innings and allowed seven hits, eight runs, walked three and struck out one. He is 9-3 with a 3.26 ERA. Dempster has had some great games this season, but there are a lot of alarming signs that his performance will decline. One of the other concerns is the innings. He has been a relief pitcher for the most part since 2004. He is already at 105 innings this season, the most he has thrown since 2003 when he started 20 games and threw 115 2/3 innings. The last time he surpassed 200 innings was 2001. Sell now!

I write this as I watch C.J. Wilson give me another heart attack. This guy is a roller coaster ever outing it seems. I have Todd Jones on my bench. How do you feel about just dumping Wilson and starting Jones? I'm inclined to do it because the Tigers are bound to start rattling off wins right? I guess I've just been waiting for him to loss the job so I'm not dropping a player with value. Ok, deep breath he got the save.

I own Wilson too, so I know the feeling. I don't think you can drop him now. He's still the closer. He may lose his job, but he hasn't yet. Todd Jones isn't someone who will ease your nerves anyway. Just hold on to both because I'm sure no closers are available in your league.

Adam,
5X5, 12 team, mixed. I'm in 5th right now. I will be waiving Kershaw on Monday and might waive O-Perez too. These SPs are on the waiver wire. Please give me your thoughts on these pitchers:

Jesse Litsch
Ricky Nolasco
Mike Mussina
Vicente Padilla
Manny Parra
Jonathan Sanchez
