Early Saturday wrap

BY ADAM RONIS

Xavier Nady remains hot. He went 3-for-4 with a run and three RBIs. He is hitting .342 with 30 RBIs. He's a very streaky hitter and has never played a full season in the majors. The most games he has played in for a season was 125 last season. He could go 25-90, but I'd sell high while he's thriving.

Jose Bautista hit his third home run in the last two games and is starting to hit after a putrid start. Don't let this fool you.

Cristian Guzman is one of the few Nationals hitting. He went 4-for-5 with two runs, his third homer and six RBIs. He's a decent NL-only MI.

Jon Rauch picked up his seventh save. If he isn't owned in your league, there's no excuse why you shouldn't win that league.

Ichiro has struggled, but the Yankees have been the remedy. He went 2-for-4 and stole his 11th base. Try and buy low, but it may be too late.

So far the calf injury hasn't slowed Alfonso Soriano down since his return, at least on the base paths. He stole his third base of the season and says he wants to steal 30. Buy low while he is hitting .169.

How many owners feel stupid for not taking Albert Pujols? I bypassed him in every league, but don't feel bad yet. Check back with me if he hits 40 HRs. He is batting .359 with six homers and 21 RBIs.

Alex Rios continues to run wild out of the leadoff spot. He stole his 8th base.

B.J. Ryan has yet to pitch on consecutive days and it seems to be working. He picked up his fourth save and hasn't allowed an earned run yet.

Mike Pelfrey needs more seasoning. He should be spot started against weaker teams if you must own him.

Brandon Webb didn't put up great numbers, but he did improve to 7-0. He is one of the most dependable starters. Don't trade him unless you get overwhelmed. However, if you're in one of my leagues and are reading this, maybe allowing a homer to Carlos Delgado is a sign he is slipping. Lets talk trade.

"The tease" Daniel Cabrera was good today, but lost. He walked just two in 7 1/3 innings. Be prepared for a bumpy ride and have the medication for acid reflux handy.

Jon Garland sprinkled in one of his good eight-inning starts, but it did come against a bad Orioles offense. He'll have good starts like this with no strikeouts once in a while and he'll get bombed in others. Play the matchups. K-Rod picked up his 12th save.

Closers have been a source of disappointment. Currently I am using Lyon and Fuentes. Available free agents include Rauch, Wilson, Percival and Ryan. Should I make changes?

Start me in Washington today? I stink so far.

John, Im shocked that those closers are available for FA's...

What type of league is this?

Every closer should be owned in all leagues. Even the shallowest of leagues, unless there is a restriction on the amount of closers.

9 pitchers total of which I have been using 2 closers. Do you think any of the available FA's are more worthy of the two I am using?

John,

How many teams in the league? Head-to-head or roto? Who are your other seven pitchers and where do you rank in saves?

ten teams, roto.
Peavy
McGowan
Snell
Webb
Scherzer
Lincecum
Volquez

Fuentes
Lyon

Currently 8th in saves w/ 8. League lead 20.

ALEX Rios. Armando Rios has been in witness protection for years.

John,

You should get another closer, preferably Ryan. I'd either drop Snell or Scherzer when he's removed from the rotation or you could trade Scherzer if he has two good starts. Scherzer isn't likely to stay in the rotation unless he is phenomenal. Doug Davis is due back and the D-Backs will limit his innings.
