Will Mike Piazza take on Roger Clemens in his book?
So what does Mike Piazza really think about Roger Clemens?
We might just find out in 2010.
That's when a memoir that Piazza is currently working on will be released, Simon & Schuster announced today. The book publisher promised in its news release that Piazza will discuss the incident with Clemens "in detail."
Piazza and Clemens nearly came to blows in Game 2 of the 2000 Subway Series after Clemens threw a the jagged barrel of Piazza's bat in his direction as he jogged to first base. That followed an incident earlier in the season when Clemens hit Piazza in the head with a fastball.
The news release also said Piazza will discuss the infamous news conference he called on the field before a regular-season game in 2002 to announce he wasn't gay, disputing a blind gossip item in the New York Post that had implied otherwise.
"Piazza will discuss those episodes in detail, as well as describe his tumultuous relationships with the Los Angeles Dodgers, their front office and Tommy Lasorda," the news release said. "He will also talk about the personalities and players from his days with the Mets, including Bobby Valentine, Pedro Martinez, and Rickey Henderson and many others."
Piazza, in a statement, said: “I look forward to having the chance to take people behind the scenes and to talk about the many great people and characters I’ve played with and for over the course of my career."
Financial terms were not released.
