Hey, Glauber! Wrong again
Our hockey-obsessed NFL columnist wrote over at his alleged football blog that he'd never seen anything like Canadiens defenseman Ryan O'Byrne's own-goal to help the Isles beat Montreal.
Well, it has, and I was there. And it happened
to Glauber's beloved Isles. Here is the Times' version of events from Nov. 29, 1987, when Brent Sutter fired a pass back to the point and Gerald Diduck wasn't ready. The puck ended up in the net and Rangers goaltender Bob Froese, one of the great characters of the game, was initially credited with the goal.

I remember this, Froese got credit and then something rarer than a goalie scoring happened. David Shaw got credit for the goal and it was probably his only two-goal-game of his career.
How freaking sad I remember that so clearly.
