Baseball and golf at the Olympics? Why? Who cares?

Two sports are going to be added to the 2016 Summer Games from a list that includes softball, roller sports, rugby, golf, squash and karate.
My vote goes to roller sports and squash.
Why should baseball be an Olympic sport when the best players are in the middle of their seasons? MLB is not going to stop like the NHL does. Baseball was kicked out after the 2008 Games and should stay kicked out. Let the smaller sports have their day. Let the athletes whose sports get almost no exposure have two weeks every two years.
And golf? We need to see Tiger Woods pumping his fist at the Olympics? Well, Tiger thinks so. Read on about baseball and golf's bids . . .
From MLB.com:
Baseball officials gave members of the International Olympic Committee assurances on Friday that an effort will be made to send some of the game's best professional players if it is reinstated for the 2016 Summer Olympics as a gold medal sport.
Accordingly, a statement from Commissioner Bud Selig was read into the record at the meeting of the IOC's program committee in Lausanne, Switzerland.
"The 2016 Olympics will have the best representation of professional players in Olympic history," said Selig.
Baseball was first up at the meeting, leading a group that included softball, roller sports, rugby, golf, squash and karate. Aside from baseball and softball, none of the other sports have ever participated in the Summer Olympics.
And from SkySports:
World number one Tiger Woods has thrown his support behind golf's bid for a place in the Olympics.
Woods, who had been thought to be lukewarm on the idea, was among several top players who took part in a video that aired when representatives of the International Golf Federation formally presented their case to the International Olympic Committee Programme Commission.
